Do those NY prices seem high?

Just for comparison - I think someone posted a price for an inside stateroom for the Canada itinerary in August at right around $830 pp. Carnival charges $550 for the exact same itinerary leaving from NY. So even on Carnival, these itineraries aren't cheap. And this is the base price on Carnival - probably more comparable to an 11C than the 10A quoted since Carnival would add more for location, etc after room selection.

Personally, I don't think sailing in the Bahamas during summer hurricaine season is a big plus. While the 5-night to Canada may cost slightly more than my 5-night currently booked on the Dream, the savings in airfare will offset it. Also, I'll be travelling somewhere that the weather will be much nicer than the Bahamas in August (fighting for pool space on the Dream in August sounds horrible to me....)

MegaBus service is horrible. Hunt Valley Motorcoach is a little more expensive, but 10 times more reliable.
Did not know about Hunt Valley Motorcoach!! Now I have to look for that link! Thanks for the info!:thumbsup2

ACtually, with taxes the inside on Carnival is $640. I guess I just don't think the prices are that much higher than I expected since most of the ships out of NY charge significantly more than ships out of Florida.

NY sailings are always higher than out of Florida during the summer months. Most times even with airfare for 4 the florida sailings are less or the same but with better ports

And to continue comparison pricing with other lines, an inside room on NCL for a similar itinerary as the 8-day port canaveral is $1010 with taxes. THis is only 7 days versus the 8 on Disney AND the PC stop is actually only a half day (arrival at 11 am so you wouldn't be in the parks until around1 and the ship departs at 11 pm so you would probably have to leave before or during the first fireworks). I think the prices on DCL are about $250 more but it includes one extra day and the park hopper and transportation making it slightly cheaper than NCL. NCL does offer sales and deals, although usually the NY markets are exempt from these deals.

we just tried to use them last Friday. We had a 6:45pm pick-up, by 8:00pm we left and drove to NYC. The 5:45pm bus still had not been there yet.

Where as Hunt Valley has always been on time. Plus they have assigned seating, as oppose to Mega Bus and open seating policy.

Sorry just now responding to the questions.

The quotes provided were for two-night June 15. The CM said the June/Aug eight-night didn't vary much b/t the two months since he looked at both as I knew folks may want to know before tomorrow.

And the CM said they in fact do not know which port but would know soon. I said it was reported M'httn (b/c we're starting to look at our hotel) and he said it's not been confirmed by DCL as they're still working through details.

The cost-value is an individual decision as everyone knows. But when you consider what you pay for hotel rooms in NYC (mind you a basic Sheraton for the same time frame this summer runs in the $475 range rack including tax) plus add on Broadway show (free on DCL) and a five-star restaurant ($15 Palo), you're looking at the same ore more on DCL. We prefer sea days anyway.

Last note - to anyone booking or calling tomorrow, be sure to try right when it opens. I did at 7 AM CDT and got through (granted, it was a special CC number) but didn't get a CM for 55 minutes. I tried also through the regular number but it was busy everytime.

Good luck to all!

Do you know how long DCL stays at Port Canaveral/Disney world?

From their website:

Day Port Guest Ashore Guest Onboard
1 New York, New York — 4 p.m.
2 At Sea — —
3 At Sea — —
4 Nassau 9:30 a.m. 6:00 p.m.
5 Castaway Cay 8:15 a.m. 4:30 p.m.
6 Port Canaveral 6:15 a.m. 11:30 p.m.
7 At Sea — —
8 At Sea — —
9 New York, New York 8:30 a.m. —

Looks like they upped the departure time from PC that was originally quoted -- maybe so people can stay for the fireworks!

The CM was wrong. The Magic is sailing out of the Manhattan Cruise Terminal according to the following.

Hi gang,
Nyc resident here. If your looking at hotels in nyc, try looking in Brooklyn. You can get a best western in bay ridge for about $119 a night, cab or taxi to manhattan will run you about $40 -45. It's a lot better than $475 a night in the heart of times square. Also from brooklyn, manhattan is only 25 minutes away.

I don't know about staying all the way in bay ridge. I got a hotel room at a Sheraton on W 51 St & 7 Ave in Manhattan for $127 per night. All they need to do is shop around. I've seen a lot of great deals.

We stay in NYC every year for a weekend and have never paid $475. We check out tripadvisor.com for reviews and the site will let you narrow down hotels by ratings, pricing and location. Then you can check out the hotel sites directly for AAA discounts or promotions they are offering. We've never paid more than $335/night (and that was on a Friday and Saturday) and have never stayed in anything less than a 3 star. The hotels we pick are usually around Broadway/Times Square. Once we stayed near 34th Street (Macy's) and once up on 58th (near Central Park). Usually at a Marriott, Doubletree or Hilton. Also stayed at Ace Hotel.

You have to really do a lot of research -- using both the hotel sites and different discounts you might find. Many hotels offer special weekend rates or mid-week rates also if you stay more than one night. And then even if you find something and book it, keep checking because offers come up or I have seen rates drop for specials. Good luck.

I am in the NY area as well. Usually grab a room in the Times Sq vicinity for around $140 a night. Check out this hotel:

Comfort Inn Times Square (NY041)

129 West 46th St, New York, NY, US, 10036
Phone: (212) 221-2600

It's clean, convenient & offers a free breakfast!

Wow - i was really excited about the Magic sailing out of NY and not having to pay airfare from Long Island, but that's way too rich for my blood :sad2:
Guess i won't be sailing DCL summer of 2012

I called today, April 7, on the first day of booking the NYC 2012 New England/Canada five day cruises and got a quote of :scared1:$3641.98 for two adults in a verandah on deck 7 midship departure July 15, 2012. It will be cheaper to fly to MCO and take Disney bus to PC. Add to the NYC cruise price (if you're a northerner and driving to NYC) that parking is :scared1:$30 /day at the Manhattan terminal and "subject to availability". Additional lots are several blocks away requiring walking quite a long way with luggage. I think it might be cheaper to fly to NYC from Upstate NY and take a cab or shuttle to the Manhattan terminal - - - IF you were going to do this cruise. But I'm sticking with PC for awhile, even tho I prefer the classic ships. Just can't believe the prices I was quoted today.:confused3:confused3

A 5-night on the Dream going to the bahamas in a category 5c is also $3400 for 2. So basically, the new 5-night itineraries are the same on the Magic to Canada as the Dream to the Bahamas. It is simply a matter of deciding if you think the Bahamas in July/August are more desireable than Canada in July/August. Or if you feel the Dream is more desireable then the Magic. And if getting to MCO is more or less than getting to NY. I guess the only surprise is that people assumed that cruises from NY would be cheaper than Florida. For me, switching my current August 2012 5-night Dream cruise to an August 2012 5-night Magic cruise will save me money and I would much rather sail on the older ships to Canada in August then fight for pool space on the new ship and sit on a hot/humid/rainy beach in the Bahamas. :confused3
