do those cooling towels really work?

We have just bought 2 cooling towels by Muc Off. They are sports towels used by cycling teams. Apparently they do not feel wet and should lower the temperature by 30°c. I am sure the kids will get plenty of use out of them.

We used one last August for our infant son. He seemed much happier when we used one in the car seat and I know it felt much cooler when holding him to have a frog tog between usimage.jpeg

I wouldn't buy Frog Toggs again, maybe a different lighter brand as a pp mentioned. I ended up buying 6 (one for each of us, and only used two). We just didn't use the others - for us they were kind of awkward. I will probably just take the two with us for each of the kids (I cut them in half). They seemed to get the most use of it while waiting for the midday parade to start, but we didn't use it any other time and it just took up space in our diaper bag.

We bought one in animal kingdom, can't remember what it was called but you wave it around and it apparently stays cold. Worked for about an hour. DD gave up and went with flannels filled with ice to dab her face and neck instead which was very effective

It was fine for my family in August . .but no different really then just having a damp towel and we just used it as such. (Didn't wear it or anything). Through it over the toddler to cool him off and protect from sun and heat.

My trick is always just take a bandanna and get it wet and wear it around my neck. Not only does it keep me cool, but it keeps the sun from frying your neck.

One trip, my son took my little spray bottle (just a cheapo dollar store one) I had in my suitcase and brought it to the park. He had a blast misting himself (and us) all day. A little lighter and more compact than the one with the fan and worked well. I used to carry tiny spray bottles to mist our faces when the kids were little. Now that they are older, we don't need it as much so I rarely carry it anymore (sometimes I miss it though).

I'm talking about those towels/hats I see advertised on tv claiming to keep you cool for hours. I actually have one and use it (I live in Pa), but was curious to see if anyone used them in the wonderful humidity that florida typically has in the summer months
Ice works amazing.

They work fine. It's not magic or anything, you'll still be hot, just slightly less hot (but damp) where you put the towel. We have a Frogg Togg that we never use and we got some free ones from another brand at the Jingle Jungle 5K last year.

I went to the dollar store and purchased the wet towels that comes with a container for a $1! We wore them the entire time we were at the parks. We would take them over to the water fountain, wet them and place them on our heads, necks, wherever!

The science is simple and they work through evaporation. When it is too humid, the evaporative properties are useless. So, whether it works or not depends on the conditions.

They have helped us in April and been worthless in September.

We used them on an August trip a few years back. I thought they were something miraculous because I don't tolerate the heat and humidity very well and I never felt it wearing that thing. Check out the pic taken toward the end of the day. We all wore them and were all feeling pretty good.

We use Frogg Toggs. DH can't sweat so it's necessary we find measures to keep him cool. I got several so we could all use them if we wanted and I felt they really did make a difference. I use them occasionally for summer outings at the zoo as well as to keep me cool when working out at the gym. My only complaint about them was that if I don't remember to lay them flat to dry they very quickly grow mold. Ruined a couple that way.

In my opinion any "cooling" gadget that involves moisture is virtually useless in Florida humidity. I deliver mail in north central Florida and I don't know anyone that uses them. You produce your own moisture by sweating. Something that involves air movement is better.
