We went in January, 2010 for my nephew's birthday and of course got him the birthday button. He was so proud of it and had so much fun on his birthday. He was 6 at the time. His brother, 7, was a little jealous I could tell at times but he never said a thing except to ask if we can go on his birthday next time. Well we are planning our next trip for 2012 and we really wanted to go on his birthday but his birthday is the first week of April which is not only springbreak but Easter as well. Way too crowded for us and more expensive. We are now looking at the first or second week of February.

We still want to do something special for my nephew who will be almost 10 when we go. I suggested we get a button and just say "Billy's Special Day" or whatever you can put on it it. I know it is not his birthday but I just wanted something to give him just one or two comments or even if no comments he will feel special just having the button. We are not asking for anything special or special treatment in any way. Really just a button to make him feel special since we will not be able to go on his birthday ever.

1- Yes.
2- You could make one and bring it with you, or take a chance on getting any of the other kind of buttons that you might find at the Guest Relations or Concierge desk that they have.
3- You are free to celebrate his birthday on any day that you'd like.
4- You can get a birthday button, or any other button that you'd like.

Have a great trip!

We got my daughter a Happy Birthday button when we went in March, but her birthday wasn't till May. As long as you're "celebrating" they will give you a button - just go to guest services at any park or resort and ask for one. BTW you might want to bring your own permanent marker. My daughters name wore off of hers after one day in the park.

There is no reason why he can't wear a Disney birthday button if he'd like to.

Both of my girls got Disney trips as their fifth birthday gift from me. With DD #1, we were able to go three days after her actual birthday. But with DD #2, we went on the trip in mid-April even though her birthday isn't until August. That was simply how the timing worked out due to other commitments throughout the summer. I still got her a button to wear when she wanted to and she was thrilled with how many people wished her a happy birthday.

yes, absolutely! We are celebrating my daughter's 5th birthday while in Disney in 2 1/2 weeks and the customer service rep (when we booked some of the meals) told us to get "1st time visitor" and "Happy Birthday" buttons from Guest Relations at whichever park we visit first!

Thanks. I think we will try to get one that you can kinda customize yourself at guest relations. He would not feel comfortable, and neither would we, getting a birthday button when it was not really his birthday. Even if no one acknowledged the button he would still have it and feel special for that. And of course we would do something special one day just for him.

they have a bunch of these buttons,,

just married, just engaged, family reunion, I'm celebrating, happy anniversary, happy birthday, I think even one that said something about retirement. Who is to say whether or not it is their actual bday, DH wore his proudly last summer and his bday was like 3 weeks away from when we were there, LOL

For my daughter we used the generic "I'm Celebrating" button and wrote on it with a sharpie "my 1/2 birthday". That is because we went on my 50th, my husband's 65th and she wanted to go for her 18th. Her birthday is July 17 so that is just not going to happen. Between the heat and the crowds I couldn't stand it. So we told her we'd celebrate by letting her pick which signature restaurant to have her birthday dinner at on our January trip.

She didn't want to wear a birthday button because it wasn't her birthday. We did try to edit one to say "Its my Unbirthday" but we couldn't get it to come out nice so we gave up on that idea.

We have 3 children and 2 of them will be celebrating their birthdays while we are at WDW. So that the 3rd child doesn't feel left out we are letting her pick one day that is her unbirthday and we will get her a button and write 'un' in front of birthday so that she can celebrate her unbirthday then she gets to plan the day the same as her brother and sister do on their birthdays. We also have my nephew and niece with us for the trip and it is a month after their birthdays so I might suggest they celebrate an unbirthday each too so that they don't feel left out! They will probably only wear the badge for 1 day though rather than every day as I think that makes it more special that the specific day is their special day when (hopefully) they get special wishes from CM, etc. plus it could get confusing if we had 5 kids all wearing birthday/unbithday buttons every day!

Thanks guys for all the ideas. I was totally prepared to be ripped apart for trying this, wanting to get away with something, poor little snowflake child can't stand not celebrating his birthday, etc. He is really a sweet and nice child and would not say a word if we didn't do anything. But at one point last year when his little brother had gotten all kinds of special treatment on his birthday I thought he was going to burst into tears. A bus driver saw little brother's button and gave him a pirate sword, eye patch and kerchief. He made a big deal of it with the other riders. Poor nephew looked so left out and I think the bus driver saw it. He called the birthday boy off the bus and talked to him and came back on and did the same ceremony for the other nephew and made them both very happy little boys. I know you can't treat each child exactly the same but this is such a small thing and it will make DN so happy.

Yup, I just got back last week, and they gave me a button for my birthday, and my brother a button for his graduation. Also, in Magic Kingdom on Main Street outside the town hall building. they had a bucket filled with buttons that anyone was able to take.

I just got back a couple of days ago. I got a Birthday button while I was there even though my birthday was at the beginning of May. We also got my brothers "I'm Celebrating" Buttons since we were celebrating their graduation. They have "Happily Ever After" buttons for newlyweds and anniversary buttons for those celebrating anniversaries. In the words of the announcer guy on the monorail "There's Always Something to Celebrate".
