like they do for the cruises? DD has long, thick hair and I would love for her to have it braided so I don't have to mess with it on vacation. If so, where and how much time does it take?

I've never looked into this because I have boys with short hair but I believe if you stay at a disney resort they have booths that put some beads and colored string in hair. Sorry don't know about the parks (the MK barber shop puts pixie dust in hair).

We were there last week and did not notice any hair beading in the parks. They were doing this on the Boardwalk for $1.50 p/inch plus beads. I've seen it done in the past at various resorts.

Yes, my dd had hers done at Periwigs at the beach and yacht club, It cost around 45.00 a for the top half of her head a yr ago, It didn't take more than 30 minutes.
Be sure to use sunscreen on her head too!!

Cool....I thought they only had hair wraps. I'll have to check out the braiding too.

Thanks for the info!

They also have a hairbeading station at the Carribean Beach Resort. I do not know anything about it except that it is there. SafetyMom should be able to help you out. Try posting your question in the Resorts board and title it Hairbeading at Resorts. I am sure you will get some helpful answers.

I know they have hairwrap / beading at MK by Pirates of the Carribean shopping and at MGM by the Muppets fountain.

They have hair beading at POR also, but make sure you you stay right there with DD...because I didn't. I figured that having my daughter's hair braided would be an opportunity for me to walk to the nearest bench to sneak a smoke (DD4 was in full view and only about 10 feet away), well the sign says $1.50 an inch an my daughter has shorter hair so I figured it would be about $10. When DD is finished I walk over to pay the bill and it was $35 - turns out DD4 wanted beads.....beads are extra. and they make the braid way past the hair - its OK, live and learn.BTW she still has it 4 weeks later.

They do the cornrow braids, like those found on a cruise or in the islands, at the hair salons. IIRC the Boardwalk, GF, Beach Club, Contemporary and the Dolphin all have a salon. You don't have to be a guest of the resort to use the salon but I would recommend making a reservation.

FWIW, I had my girls done here at home the day before we left, it was cheaper and I didn't have to spend vacation time doing it!!

Most of the resorts as well as MK, AK and the Boardwalk area also offer the hair wraps. Colored string and beads wrapped around a strand, my girls had one done at the Boardwalk and it came out great. My youngest had hers done in December and it lasted until late February. $1.50 per inch for the wrap plus the cost of beads.

This sounds interesting. DD11 may want to do this. Where in POR is it? Thanks :)

Thanks, I will have to check with the salons around here and see if anyone does that. I would love to have it done before we go, too.

Also, what are the hair wraps? Do you have any pictures? Will they stay in her hair so I don't have to comb it for the 10 days we are on vacation? Can you wash her hair with the wraps like you can with the braids?

I don't have a picture of my dd but here is a picture I found online. This is how they look. My dd's only had 1/2 head done in the cornrows so she had an underneath peice on the side "wrapped" and it looked good.

Hair wraps and hair braiding -- yes, they have it in both the parks and by the pools at the deluxe resorts. Hair wraps are actually very easy to do yourself; we had one of those Kluttz books from the craft store, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get good results.

Another thing along these lines: You can have your whole face painted in the parks. It's about $12, but, oh, did it make my then-6-year old happy. It was very pretty and lasted all day.
