Do they ever discount cruise points

Just curious as I continue my quest for DVC. I have a 2002 DVC information guide book from our last trip to WDW and the amount of cruise points is high

I know that many say it doesn't make sense to use your points for a cruise. But do they ever discount the amount of points needed

Just an FYI, the points to cruise for 2004 has gone up approx 5 - 10% depending on time of year and category booked since 2002. The only time points are discounted are when you book on-board during a cruise, for another cruise. You book the cruise and then call MS when you get home during a specified time period. You then get a discounted point amount, but I'm not sure what that discounted point amount is.

You can get a discount on points if you book while on the cruise. There has been one or two specials where they lowered the points, some people got points back that had already booked.

I've never read this before is this true??? How do I get info on it???

There have actually been one or two times when there was a DCL-DVC special. I understand those booked prior to the special were refunded the points. The reduction in points for booking on board is consistent with the cash discount from what I'm told, I'm sure there are those who know for certain. Anyway, you must make it known while on the ship and call DCL within 3 days of disembarking. It it's more than 11 months but no more than 14 months, you just call back AGAIN when the 11 month window opens. It's very important you follow these rules though to get the discount.
