Do they change every year?

I was looking at the points for the Disney collection and I noticed they went up 1-4 points in some places for the non DVC deluxe resorts.

I wonder do they go up this amount every year or go up and stagnate or what? What is a typical trend?

Point needs for the non-DVC options have usually drifted up each year. We have speculated the reasons for this often on this forum - but DVC has never offered any explanation.

The rack rates have typically outpaced DVC fees most years (DVC fees have averaged about 4% per year since the program began). Rack rates for other resorts have generally risen much higher, although discounts offered tended to minimize those increases- especially when the travel industry was down in 2001 (especially after 9/11) thru last year when things began an upward trend for travel again.

Regardless, there is no cap on increases for non-DVC options (unlike the restrictions on reallocating point needs for DVC resorts).

the sun-thur rate is found by the rack rack times the taxes divided by 10

the fri/sat rate is found by multiply the points by 1.80 (last year I think it was 1.75).

this works for most cases. However this year they have replaced the concierge with a room???? if this is a concierge lagoon view we got a bargin - if it a garden view - well they are definitely charging DVC members more.

I'm a little confused now. I thought the benefit of buying into DVC was to use today's dollars to pay for future vacations to avoid increases. However, what I'm reading is that Disney raises the maintenance regularly which I can understand, raises the number of points needed for a stay, and raises the cost per point on a regular basis. Seems like a pattern to me.

this is considered one of our exchange option

like the cruises and Disney has to rent our villa to get the money. So that means including CRO.

now if you are talking DVC resorts - they can also change. I really though this year they would. make Thanksgiving and the food/wine in regular season (magic) like the WDW resorts - but then they would have to lower something else.

the total points can not change - but the individual seasons can change.

Maintenance fees are directly related to the actual expenses for running the resort and DVC. Cost per point changes only for new purchases and will NOT affect what you paid last week or last year. Points needed for a stay at a DVC resort have not changed since 1996 and if they ever do change again, some dates might rise, but others would have to fall. The only point requirements with no guarantee or restrictions are the non-DVC options ... and those could even disappear entirely. They are options and nothing more.

DVC points are really only for DVC resorts. All the rest is expensive fluff which can and will increase in costs over time.
