Has anyone ever requested a late check-out at BWV? I just found out my flight home has been changed to 6:15PM and I was hoping to be able to spend a little bit more time at my hotel before heading to the airport. I was thinking of asking if we could possibly stay in our room until 1 or 2PM on our check-out day. Anyone know if we stand a chance? Also, I'm staying on points - would I be able to call the resort directly myself and ask? Or would the member have to call for me?

None of the DVC resorts allow late check outs. The DVC units take longer to clean than standard hotel rooms, so they just can't accomodate late check outs.

You can leave your luggage with Bell Services. There are rest rooms available if you want to swim until it's time to go.

I don't think I've EVER heard of a late check-out being granted. That includes people who have flight delays, sick family members, etc. (It's always possible that someone has been granted a late check-out previously...perhaps when the policy wasn't being enforced as stringently or when someone caught a CM in a good mood. But these days they are VERY strict.)

As Carol said, they need that time to clean the rooms. Most DVC stays are under 8 days, meaning that the only time rooms get a full cleaning is between guests.

The blanket policy may seem harsh, but it's the only fair way to handle the situation. The resorts could never allow late checkouts to a great volume of members, and this keeps Disney CMs from having to decide who is more deserving.

I know they need the rooms as soon as possible for incoming quests. They have wonderful facilities to use in the gym area. You can have a locker and use the shower facilities. No charge. Your luggage can be stored with the bell area and you can get at it when you need to . They are very accomodating.

Dh and I have hung out in the Bellevue Lounge while waiting for DME.

We spent the morning at MK, and came back early to make sure we didn't miss the bus. I was pretty spent, and the lounge was quiet, kind of dark, and empty. The seats could have been a little more comfortable, but overall it was nice to spend an hour in there. (I all but fell asleep.) Dh was disappointed because he wanted to ride Spaceship Earth again. That's a good idea too. I was really too stiff to move at that point. We are still pretty commando with our touring.

Like pp said, Bell Services will hold your luggage. You can go to the parks, swim and change in the bathrooms, hang out in the Bellevue Lounge, on the front porch, in the lobby or by the pool or go to the restaurants for awhile. You could also rent a boat or go play putt putt.

Thanks for the quick replies. You've given me more info/suggestions for our last day - I'm not sure if we'll have our rental car at that point and I know DME picks you up 3 hours prior to flight time, so it will probably be just a few hours we need to kill. I like the mini-golf idea, and I didn't know I'd be able to use the lockers/showers in the gym. I like the idea of just being able to relax on our last day and not take the mid-morning flight home like we usually do. Just hope we get nice weather that last day!

We did this on our last stay at the BW. On our last day we stored our luggage with Bell services, spent a few hours in Epcot, came back for a swim, used the gym to shower and change and then headed for the airport.

We always get the latest flight possible, usually 8 or 9 pm, you can check your bags and check in for your flight right at the desk. Then just leave your carry-on with bell serviceand enjoy one last day at a park or pool. If you keep a change of cloths in your carry-on they have showers etc. We also always arrive before noon when possible, just head for a park and our luggage is in the room when we get home.

Early on DVC allowed late checkouts but people took advantage so that option was eliminated by rule somewhere around 96-98. Some low life's make their own late checkout by simply hanging out in the room, some have been charged an extra day but it should happen more than it does.

I got late check-out only twice. Once until 11:30 and that was because we were 90% loaded into the car and it started to come down buckets. As soon as it let up we loaded and went.

The other time was a 1:00 checkout and that was only because they mistakenly locked out our keys at 10:00 and we couldn't get into the room to get our luggage.

That stay was a wild one. Three days before we were to leave they mistakenly checked us out. Found that out when we tried to buy something in the park. Matter of fact they gave me one day points back on that one.

And while it's not about BWV, our last day at AKV I discovered they had both a steam room and a sauna in the gym. How nice it was to steam away some of the aches before leaving WDW. I will be more thorough in checking out the amenities of other gym/pool areas. We have often hung out around the pool and changed in the lavatories, but the steam room took my departure to a much more blissful place.:thumbsup2
