Do the water parks close due to cold weather? What we here in Michigan think of cold weather and what they think is cold weather is two different things. We are looking forward to the water parks in two weeks and plan on going no matter what. Our theory is the colder it is the less crowded it will be. We have gone the past two Jan. but the weather was unseasonably warm. Thanks in advance for any info.

I not sure if they do, but be forwarned the south is being hit by that artic front from Canada ATM, and I'm pretty sure right now what we are experiencing is what you find cold lol.

If it is sunny with the temperatures near 60 degrees or above with no/low winds, guests
can be found swimming at the resorts and water parks.

The water is heated in most pools.

Yes, current temperature in Davenport 30 minutes ago was 1C (34F) with predictions of sub zero Centigrade (ie Freezing point) temperatures for the night times this week:eek: .

A couple of years ago in December I was on a bus to DTD that stopped through Typhoon Lagoon - I can't remember what the temperature was but it was a cold day and the water park was open. I remember thinking I wouldn't like it but I was sure my nieces and nephews would -- at any rate there were only 7 cars in the parking lot so you know it wasn't busy at all!

I live near the mouse and we have a Frost advisory in effect until 9 AM est this morning. For me, that is COLD!

We keep the water in all the slides and pools around 80F (27C) except for Shark Reef which does not have filters, pumps or heaters. What you want is a day that will be bright and sunny and preferably not windy.

If you go on a day that is heavily overcast you will not be able to take advantage of any radiant heating (from the sun) or on a windy day (especially with a dry wind from the North) you will get hit by wind chill.

But a day with the highs in the mid-50s or above which is sunny and calm most people (at least from Northern climates) should be comfortable.

I have seen them close the water parks early. A couple of years ago we only had 25 Guests in the park at 11:00am, an hour after opening, and actually the temperature was expected to drop and it would get windier. A decision was made then to close at Noon. If anyone else arrived we let them through the gates as long as they showed a ticket. It turned out that every person who had entered the Park had multi-day or annual passes or were Cast Members getting free entry. If there had been anyone with single day tickets we would have given them Rain Out tickets because of the early closing (and our three hour rule).

And I had another time when I was called at home and given a choice to either go to WWS or not report in as they were not opening that day.

Last March my day at Blizzard Beach was in the low 60s with a bit of a breeze.

The cast member sitting at the top of Summit Plummet was wearing long pants and a heavy coat as he sent people in their bathing suits down a 120 ft water slide.

Temperature really is a subjective thing.

Keep in mind though that only Blizzard Beach will be open during your visit.
Typhoon Lagoon is being refurbished until late March.

I thought that both waterparks used to close in January-February. Huh. I certainly wouldn't be in my swimsuit unless its 75*. I'm a wuss.

In the cooler winter months they have one waterpark open and close the other one. There are definitely many days in the winter that a waterpark is doable. However I'm sure that if the high is in the 50's with lows in the 30's the waterparks will close.I've never gotten near a Disney waterpark on days like those but Wet N Wild did close on a very cold day like that and I'm sure Disney will close them as well if it's very cold. But there are still more days in winter with highs in the 70s or even low 80's that especially northern visitors would do a waterpark. The coldest I've ever done a waterpark was Blizzard Beach with lows in the upper 50s and highs in the low 70's.I was fine when I was in the sun but when I went in a cave or somewhere with no sun I was pretty cold being a Floridian.

Well if it's at least around 30 degrees there, that would be pretty warm for me seeing how it was -30 this morning in Wisconsin.

Thank you all so much for your replies. My boys are die hard swimmers they have gone swimming in a lake in April:scared1: . So I am guessing as long as BB is open we will be there(I might be on the side lines w/ a sweatshirt
on:cheer2: ).

Being from Chicago, we can take the cold. Still, my biggest waterpark problem in cold weather is that while the water is nice and warm, I would get chilled going from one slide to another.

For the most part they are kept open as the water is heated. Sometimes it makes sense to close the parks, which has been done.

WOW! But you also need to take into consideration 30 degrees down here in a humid south is a lil different than 30 degrees up north where it's dryer.

Just like humidity intensifies the heat down here, it does the same for cold.
I'm one who had the chance to feel the difference when I lived in VA. for a short spell. When I returned home. I scoffed at the weatherman "30 degress??? HA!" then I walked outside.. It goes through your skin straight past your bones and out the back of ya.

Fellow Wisconsiner here! But it's a balmy -3 here now :rotfl2:

I'm not sure if they will closed the water parks due to cold weather because during out last trip, I forgot the temperature, we also experiencing cold weather but still water parks are open. :thumbsup2
