Do the treehouses still exist?

We stayed at the Disney Institute in 97. I remember the buses would pass the treehouses on their route. I know that Saratoga Springs has now replaced the Institute, but I was wondering if the treehouses are still available. I have looked online and in books, but I can't find any reference to their existence.

They are still there, but not being used.

Yes and no. They are still there but not for use for visitors. They are on Saratoga Springs land and apparantly that land is now protected. I guess they sometimes house EPCOT international workers there. But they are not avail to rent for visitors.

klj27 - we stayed at the Fairway Villas next to the golf course just nearby your Treehouse Villas. What a great place to vacation. I wish they were still available for the public too!

Neither the Treehouses or the Fairway Villas are available to the public for rent. The Treehouses are on protected land, but all of that land is zoned for Saratoga Springs, so what will happen in the future is anyone's guess.

TIM, We stayed in a treehouse, but always planned to return and stay in a FW VILLA! We never did...and never knew anyone else whom did this (until your post). How was the FW Villa? They looked just like nice houses, set in among the trees (similar to the treehouses). We used to ride the golfcart from the treehouse, and around the streets of the villas. I always imagined they were pretty comfy/nice. Any info you could share, would be appreciated. Thanks.

They are in poor shape; some have trees leaning on them. According to our boat captain, they will be torn down to make room for more of Saratoga Springs. At least that's what I remember him saying.

We stayed in Fairway Villas in 1984. They were great our villa was right on the golf course and every morning peacocks came to our patio and the kids fed them bread. We also stayed in the club lake suites (now SSR) they were not as nice. I guess we were spoiled by fairways we now own at OKW and love that resort

That was from the hurricanes last fall. It's too bad, what a cool place to stay. Whaen DH and I first saw them, they were so remote and quiet, we thought they were private.

We saw them on the bus ride from our resort to DTD a couple times last week and wondered the same thing. They have not changed since the 80's and were in desparate need of attention so I figured that there was no way they could be open to resort guests. I never got a chance to stay in one, but always wanted to as a kid.

Thanks for everyone's information. We stayed in a two story townhouse (not sure what name you would give it) at the Disney Institute. We loved it! Two bedrooms, 2.5 baths, living room, kitchen, dining room and patio. All of that for only $150 a night! ($300 rate and 50% off cm discount.) The next year we stayed at the Boardwalk for the same price. We felt so cheated. The space and peacefulness couldn't be beat in the townhouse. I am so sad they are not there anymore. I always wanted to try a treehouse - I guess we never will.

Problem is if they are torn down then the land will remain empty because it is on protected land right now. But since they are there currently they are grandfathered in.

I was under the impression that what was the Disney Institute was torn down and Sarataoga Springs was built in its place. Is my geography wrong?

Heard they are not for rent and schedfor teardown, just when after all these years now that our kids have grown and left the nest, we would like to have given them a shot.

The Treehouses are on protected land, not the Villas. Everything including the Treehouses and Villas used to be part of Disney Institute, which is now the same land on which Saratoga Springs is being built.
