Do the kids really like the autograghs?

I never understand why someone would want the character's autograph more than once. If they have already seen Chip, then the next time they happen to run in to him I think they feel obligated to get another one. But that seems like a bit of a waste of time and pages on the book to me.

I think that an adult may understand the concept, but for a child who is caught up in the adventure.......

We went to MK when the girls were 2 and 5 and we didn't get autographs, we were just there for the day and got a few pictures with the characters. The two year old loved pooh at the time and would not have stopped hugging him to ask for an autograph if we would have wanted her to! We then went on the Disney Magic this past April and had every character imaginable at our disposal. The girls were 5 and 8 and when I asked if they wanted to buy and autograph book, they said no, that's stupid. They liked seeing the characters on the boat, but they were happy to just see them from across the room, we had to make them get the few pictures that we did. We're going back for a week in 2007 to DW and I won't even bring it up. I think it depends on the kid.

Thanks everyone,
I think i will pick up some cheap little notebooks JIK!

DD started with the autographs the first time we took her to DL when she was 5. She had one for each trip until she turned 12 and it was no longer cool. This year, she's 15, and she's bringing a friend along. They decided they would love to get the autograph books for this trip. I guess it's passed being uncool and is now sort of retro for them. :teeth:

We still have all her autograph books and her Epcot passports and she looks through them fairly often even at 15.

Until you've seen the magic on the face of a child who really believes, getting an autograph ,its hard to understand. We took a trip once with some friends of ours, a family of all ages. The grandma didn't really understand the whole autograph thing. Our first day was at MGM and we had just left the Great Movie Ride and were walking down toward the back lot tour. I said that Mickey was down this street. The grandma (who lives 45 mins from Disney and goes all the time) said we have a character meal booked with Mickey, they'll meet him then. I said okay, but peeked into the area where Mickey as we walked by. There were only four other kids waiting. The young ones on our trip (5 and 6) really weren't enjoying MGM very much and I knew they would love meeting the characters. I said, are you sure we don't want to stop - there are only four kids waiting right now. So we stopped, got the kids books and pens out (I had bought them earlier) and went in. The little girls eyes got as big as saucers and she had a great big smile on her face. She turned and looked at her mom and said ITS MICKEY!!! She literally jumped up and down when it was her turn to meet the mouse. They LOVED the characters. As we were leaving the grandma looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, thank you I just didn't know how special it would be for them.
