Do the DIS moderators ever.....

Do the DIS moderators ever ban someone from the boards? I have seen a few people who seem to go around posting things just to get people mad, they call names, tell people they are stupid and what have you. They are a lot more prevalent on some boards than others.

Anyone know if you can be "banned" from the Dis and doe's it ever happen?
(If a mod would reply to this it would be great!)

Yes, I've been on the board for a few years and I have noticed a bunch of people no longer able to post. The moderators will be able to give you more information, but yes, banning is exercised.

I think its great..that everyone has a different point of view to offer and its one thing to disagree with someone.

But its another to resort to name calling, etc.

From the FAQ section of the DIS

We do not believe in censorship, and open discussions about various issues is encouraged. We ask that everyone conduct himself or herself with respect when speaking to other people. It is okay to disagree, as long as the discussion remains respectful of the feelings of others. Once a discussion begins to step over that line, the post in question will be deleted. In extreme cases, individuals who are not able to conduct themselves as responsible group members will be asked not to return.

The site administrators take care of banning certain individuals. Mods don't do that.

They can and they have. Of course, as someone else has pointed out, many of the banned folks come back under different names. But it's usually pretty easy to figure out that the "new" poster is someone who was banned. Many of the banned folks have a certain posting "style" which is unmistakable, even under a different name.

I know I have seen a few people be attacked for posting something that the attacker (lack of better word) doesn't agree with and then the attacker keeps comming back to just to fuel the fire.

I really think that banning someone is the last thing a webmaster wants to do. I think that if we just ignore those who are obviously 'stirring pots' then the offenders will just get tired and go away. It's hard to just pass over some of those posts though...I've fallen prey to them myself.

For the banned, bad idea. But it is not a reason for banning -have different uernames. Plus I think the tech's have the ability to see the irl # and can put 2 and 2 together.

Banned??!!!! Gosh, I hope I never get banned.....whatever would I do at work all day if I was banned from DIS???
