Do Studios usually sell out by 7 months?

I was thinking about buying at Vero Beach Resort, not because I'd like to use the points there, but only because I see them listed for around $60.00 a point on the Open Market.
My question is, considering the fact that I typically go to Disney during off season (2nd Wk of March and Last week of August), do you guys think it would be a problem for me to get either a Studio or a 1BR Villa, 7 months out (since you can only book your Home Resort 11 months out)
I would most likely stay at Animal Kingdom or Old Key West... Possibly Saratoga Springs as well.

You should be be able to get something at 7 months for the times you mention, especially if you book at exactly 7 months. One bedrooms are usually the last to sell out for any particular time. The resorts you mention are the largest of the WDW resorts and virtually always have something available at 7 months.

Make sure you do the math before you buy - the dues for Vero Beach are quire a bit more than those for some of the WDW DVC resorts.

Very common idea, my only thought is that if it was a great idea, everyone would own there and not at WDW.

FYI Vero Beach has the highest dues in all of DVC. This can add up over the life of the contract.

I was just this week able to book a SSR studio for Feb 24 - March 3. There was some limited availability at OKW and AKV for that time too but not much. Nothing at all for the other 5 DVC resorts, they were booked solid.

Sometimes, during certain busy times like Food & Wine you will probably have to book earlier but if you aren't picky about where you stay you should be able to stay at most WDW DVC resorts at 7 months. Maybe not AKV value, BLT and BWV standard or VGF but it's not impossible. Just book as early as possible and there is always the waitlist.

If you intend to keep your contract for more than 10 years, VB will end up costing you more than a contract at SSR due to the high annual dues at VB. If there is a special assessment due to storm damage that time frame will be even shorter. If you are buying into DVC to stay at WDW, run the numbers (I used either 3% or 3.5% as an average annual dues increase) and I think you will see that SSR would be a better deal long term.

Buy VB if you want to stay at VB, especially if you want to book a Beach Cottage. But if your goal is to stay at WDW, buy a WDW resort. That way you'll always have your home resort at 11 months out if you want it for something special. Otherwise, you can be shut out.

Studios usually book first before one bedroom villas.

This is a really good point. I just realized that SSR's maintenance is around 27% less than VB, and I've already seen a few sales listed that are only around 15% more than the prices I saw for VB.

The reason I originally thought about this idea, was because the ones I saw for Animal Kingdom were all around 40% higher than VB, but SSR isn't bad.
