Just talked with a friend who got back from a CRAZY busy spring break at Disney.
When I asked if they used FastPasses they said they did not see where to buy them
I tried to explain that the regular park ticket is all that is needed- just put it in the machine as long there are still FP available.
she still insisted she did not have that kind of ticket. :confused3 She bought a full priced ticket and stayed with family nearby.

I guess that just means more FP for the rest of us...

Yes, there seems to be a misconception about the Fastpass system. I think that people get Universal confused with Disney and think they have to pay for the Fastpasses so they just don't bother. I have a friend at work who has been to Disneyland twice and not used the FP once - she told another friend who is coming on their first Disney trip with me in 26 days that you have to pay to get FP. I corrected her that you do not have to pay for the FP and that maybe she was thinking it was Universal and she argued with me so I walked away shrugging my shoulders. I have been to WDW 2x and DL 2x and used the FP system every time. Oh well, like you said, more FP for the rest of us.

I did not realize Univeral charges for FP-

I just felt sorry for her as she talked about waiting for HOURS in lines! I can see how some people may misunderstand...

You can lead people to FP machines, but you can't make them think... :goodvibes

You can get expedited access if you stay in the hotels of USF, or you can buy it. The difference -- staying at the hotels gives you unlimited trips, if you buy it, I believe it's once per attraction.

I think there are more people than we realize that do not use the fastpass system. I always encourage new people to use it, but I agree with the pp who said you can lead them but not make them think. I think to some people they just don't understand the wait time before getting another one. Using the fastpass is certainly a plus and it cuts down on the wait time tremendously.

That is good to know. we plan to go to Univeral on teh next trip-after Harry Potter has been opened.

She said the MK was very busy, but still had a great time- I would never wait as long as she did for some of the rides they did. I guess that is why I went in Feb and not March LOL

Yes, despite the MANY ways Disney explains that FPs are free and how to obtain and use them (when you check in, on every park map, near all the FP distribution areas, in their website, and in all the Disney planning books and on all the Disney planning websites), there are many people who think they need to buy them. Or that they are only for WDW property hotel guests.

Every trip we use FPs, there is ALWAYS some family that gives us dirty looks as we pass them in the FP line. They usually mutter something along the lines of, "They let THEM cut in line- we didn't have enough money to spend on extras like FP"... We don't even try to explain anymore. If people aren't willing to even read the park map, for goodness sake, to figure out how to use FP, I'm not going to let them make me feel bad.

:thumbsup2:lmao:

WDW certainly does a good job of leading people there, but if they refuse to use the information, you can't do anything.
I just read an article in the Sunday Minneapolis paper complaining about the cost of parking like it was a surprise (they were staying at one of the "Good Neighbor" WDW DTD hotels, not on site). That part I maybe get, but the writer parked at Epcot and later went to MK, where he complained about having to pay for parking AGAIN. Apparently, in his research, he didn't find that parts that said to save your parking receipt so you don't have to pay when entering a the 2nd parking lot on the same day.:confused3

I think you answered your own question with the story of your friend. There are lots of people who don't realize how fastpass works.

She is a smart girl- teaches at the local college actually- lol Some people get an idea in their head and refuse to see the truth I guess.!! LOL

I just wondered if she was an exception....

Hahaha yeah, some people are so dumb! Or they think there's a catch... honestly though, Disney's parks are the ONLY ones left with no charge for a skip the line service, so I can see how people can be skeptical of it. If people say something like "here come the people who can afford it" I will turn around and say "Um FastPass is free, you can go back out the entrance and get one right now for 2 hours from now." And see what there faces are.

To drive the point home, I would have said, "They're FREE, you're not at Universal!"

A freind of mine was going with her family and asked me for a good guide book. I told her to get the UOG. She did and read about the hotels, she stopped reading after that, the book was too long:confused:.

So we are sitting at a Tball game, and I just happen to ask if she read up FPs and ADRs. She had no idea what I was talking about. She thought FPs had to be bought. I explain it briefly but this was the end of the game.

She called me later that evening in a panic, I literally spent two hours on the phone explaining FPs, ADRs and some other stuff.

She was an "expert" by the time I got done with her:lmao:

Six Flags sells a package where you get 6 of their version of the fastpass for 20 or 30 dollars. 6 people can use them on one ride, 1 can use them on 6 rides, 2 can use them on 3 rides each, etc...
I never thought the Disney fastpass was the same, but I guess some people who regularly patronize other parks are getting it confused.

Sadly I think a lot of people don't understand a lot of things when they go to WDW. They have this idea that it is a Six Flags type park and that you can just show up at the gate and that as we all know here is so far from the true.
More fast passes for us :cool1:
