Do resale points still get member pricing on crafts and gift shop purchases?

We have made our first offer on resale DVC points and I know that resale contracts do not get all the perks of direct. We stay at Disney Vero Beach Beach and Hilton Head resorts atleast once per year and I am always asked when getting charged for craft activities and in the gift shop if I am a DVC member. Does now owning resale DVC points qualify me to say "yes"? Do I receive an actual card or is that all reserved for direct sales only?

All discounts are reserved for those with a blue card. Resale members are not eligible for the discounts.

At this time, you must own at least 100 point bought direct from Dis ney...rumored for go up to 125 October 1st.

You will not get a card but have access to a white digital card you can download

Is there any purpose to the white digital card?

Do the resorts ever extend the discount to resale members? I have always just been asked if I was DVC, which was no at the time, but they were never specific on direct or resale while questioning, so it made me curious on how the resorts issue discounts!

Pool hopping and access to BLT are pretty much it, Though you are allowed to purchase TIW...when it’s for sale...without needing an AO as. DVC card holder,

If they ask if you are DVC and you say yes, they should ask to see your card and without the blue card, they discount should be denied.

I think this whole thing is ridiculous and really would have hoped that disney was above this. I understand business is business, but part of what made disney so great was that it seemed as though they were above the pettiness in timeshare sales. All my points are grandfathered or direct - so I am not complaining as one who has the white card - I am complaining out of what i perceive as fairness to all.

It is double edged. There likely is some costs on DVC to allow for certain benefits. So they likely don't want to make it more confusing by having each benefit opt in and out of being white card eligible or not more so than they already do.

It is a business move though to sell direct and Disney could in theory offer everything except moonlight events for no actual cost to Disney. Although possibly discount % might be adjusted with more people having access.

There are a lot of our products though that give you more if you pay more, Costco gives me 2% back on purchases since I upgraded my card,,,those that don’t, get nothing,,

Same thing with CC...pay and you get better perks than if you don’t, So, honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with DVC offering different perks to certain buyers who buy from them directly.

I agree and I'm a resale buyer! Our agreement to forego the extras is right there in the contract, so we are fully aware what we are signing up for...and what we are giving up. You have to sacrifice something to save thousands of $$. That said, if we could still get the discounts, we wouldn't mind!

during our last trip (our first as DVC resale owners) - I never knew how to answer this question when they would ask me... at first I would say yes, then try to explain , then they’d look at me confused. I finally just started saying “no” which made me sad, because we ARE DVC owners. But it was easier than explaining what a white card was and I don’t like not following the rules.

That being said, I found out at the end of the week that my clueless DH said “yes” and showed his white card (that I had put on his phone for TOTWL) . He got the discount every time....He had no idea he wasn’t supposed to receive the discount.

I have had that happen to me. I just replied yes as I was excited to be a DVC member because I am and later I noticed 20% off on my bill!

There is certainly nothing wrong with that. However, when DVC started messing around with restrictions, that's not the same as offering different perks, IMHO.

Since this thread was about discounts for blue vs, white card, I was only referring to that aspect, not restrictions for booking.

I knew what you meant, but I was trying to point out that offering discounts to certain members isn't merely just about offering different perks. It's really part of a fundamental change to DVC membership, IMHO. I realize I am straying way OT, so I will stop here.

Got it. Yes, it is a different product today vs 2012 when this change went into place. At least, they grandfathered all, so in that respect, I do see it as different perks for different members.

Except some would say language is vague enough that DVC could possibly push to start having direct and resale have different booking rules.

We're about to become first time DVC members with a resale (just past ROFR).

When at Disney, I will answer "yes" if anyone asks me if I'm a DVC member and I will feel no guilt in doing so, even if it gets me a discount that should have been reserved for a "blue card" member.

If I'm asked whether or not I'm eligible for the member discount I'll answer honestly that "I don't believe I'm eligible..." but as the customer, the burden should not be on me to interpret and then help enforce their latest policy on the matter.

I'm assuming Disney doesn't care about enforcing the policy and/or they've decided it's not worth creating an uncomfortable situation for us "second class members" telling us we're not eligible. Either way, Disney created these "tiers" and is responsible for how they want to implement their policies.

I do hope you don't let Disney's inconsistent implementation of their member discount policy get you down in the future. You shouldn't feel uncomfortable, or sad, for their lack of clarity and training on the definition of "DVC Member".

Since this question has been answered and we don’t want to go down the path of circumventing rules for Disney, we will end here.

White card holders are not eligible for discounts. What happens with a CM is up to them.
