I am planning to rent points from a DVC owner for an 8 day stay. Will I get all the Disney perks i.e. early/late (extra hours) park admissions, magical express service, transportation within disney etc. ? Also what housekeeping service does one get in a DVC villa? Thanks, Bob :cool1:

Hi - yes, you'll receive all the benfits any resort guest would receive - access to early/late hours, etc. Not sure what you mean about park admission - you'll have to purchase your tickets, of course, but you'd have access just like any other resort guest, and if the parks are crowded, you'd be in the group of resort guests who have access when the park closes to off-site guests (but, remember, sometimes the parks are so crowded they admit no other guests, and then you don't have any "up" on any other resort guest - full is full!) Transportation would also be included, but I think Magical Express depends on your airline, so check that out separately - it's not a perk tied to DVC stays only. As far as housekeeping goes, you'd get Trash and Towel on the 4th day of you stay and a full cleaning on the 8th (which you'd miss if you're leaving then!!!

Just to add that you CAN pay for daily housekeeping if you choose to. I don't remember the rates, but I think it is something like $25 a day for a studio and $35 for a 1 bedroom. Someone else here might know that. We don't stress about the housekeeping. I actually prefer to not have others roaming around our villa when we aren't there. It's no biggie to make the bed just like I do at home, and I don't feel bad about keeping stuff on the counter if I want to.

Renters of DVC points from members get the same "on-sight" perks as anyone staying at any of the regular WDW resorts would..what renters are "technically" not entitled to are the "DVC member" perks such as dining discounts and pool hopping and such. That said though, you may be able to get some of the perks like the dining disounts as your room key will say member on it...if you do, you can consider it a bonus. Just don't go out of the way to ask for the members perks as you may be asked to show the blue member I.D. card in addition to the room key as proof of eligibility.

Enjoy!:)

If you stay at least 8 days, you get full cleanin on day four. Counting the day you check in as day one, day four gets you full cleaning. If you stay longer than 8 days, you also get towels and trash on day 8. If you stay less than 8 days, you get towels and trash on day 4.

Remember, too, that DVC member perks, such as pool hopping, have black out periods. Most types of perks are only available to members and their guests staying with them on points at a DVC resort.

I don't know now - since the new system requires that every body in the room be named when you make the reservation.

anyone have a guest that stayed recently since the change - do the ID still say DVC member on it???

We rented twice in the past last time was in Nov. Both times our room keys stated "DVC member" on them. We were able to get free valet parking and the dining discounts. We don't pool hop so I don't know how that would work.

Not sure how this works now with everyone's names being on their cards. But, why would tthat mean it wouldn't say "DVC member"?

With all of the recent ticketing / identification changes, I think spiceycat was just speculating that perhaps the renter keys no longer have the "DVC member" notation.

It's something of a moot point anyway. More and more DVC has been stressing presentation of the blue member ID card to receive perks. I have no doubt that it's actually being administered very inconsistently from one location to the next, but renters should not expect the DVC membership perks to be as freely given as they were 2 years ago.

We just returned from OKW Sunday evening. Our OKW resort cards had our names and did say DVC member.

We rented points in December, and our cards had our names, and said DVC member. The only perk we used was valet parking, and we did tip.

This may just be a rhetorical question and not pointed at any one poster, but why in the world would a renter even feel like they were entitled to something intended for a DVC owner? I just don't get it.

Only answer I can figure on this one is that perhaps they think because they are renting someones points that they are in effect renting someone's membership - perks and all :confused3

Probably because Disney / DVC has encouraged the practice by printing "DVC Member" on the room keys of ANYONE staying on DVC points. We rented a couple of times before buying, and everyone from the front desk CM on down gave us a warm "Welcome Home." One trip we had planned in advance to buy the Length of Stay pass, and as part of the check-in spiel, the CM asked if I'd like to purchase the UPH with the 10% member discount. I certainly wasn't going to say no to that!

Most posts that I see here from non-members seem to take the approach "if a discount is offered, great; if we don't get a discount, no problem." I really haven't seen any great sense of entitlement coming from people. And, when such feelings exist, I suspect it might be driven by the member renting the points who is telling their customer about all of the great additional perks they will get when renting.

If Disney doesn't feel a need to better enforce their own discount programs, I don't think anyone who is offered the discounts should feel a moment's guilt over it. I've never viewed the discounts as magnanimous rewards from Disney for buying into DVC--they are simply perks to encourage guests to spend more money.

ITA, Tjkraz! It is Disney's responsibility to enforce their own rules.

I think the problem is determining who is a renter vs a guest.

Your guest (people staying free on your points) - have the right to all the benefits (except the cash discount, and the new AP discount) that you have.

lots of us send family, friends or give points to charites - these are surpose to have all the rights that you do.

Good point Spiceycat.

I have noticed in other (non WDW) situations that rentals sometimes come with perks enjoyed by owners - ie. temporary use of club facilities, tennis, golf and swim privileges, etc. It wouldn't surprise me to have renters asking these same questions about DVC rentals. And, if the rules really aren't enforced very well, it could be difficult to know exactly what to expect. Agree, though, that sometimes renters (and owners, for that matter) have an unrealistic expectation of the perks.

There are those in the timesharing world that think any exchangers should get EVERY perk a member does for no extra charge. To me it's a stupid way to look at it but up to DVC to decide what they care about and what they don't. And I'd agree that drawing the line between a guest and a renter can be difficult from DVC's standpoint and guests expressly get MOST DVC perks.
