I just ran across an old refillable mug from a Christmas trip 2 years ago in our cabinet. I don't even remember where exactly I bought it from. I think I remember buying it with hot chocolate in it.

Anyway, do these mugs expire or can you use it on future visits. It seems to me that when they first started selling them, they were for lifetime visits, but then I think I saw recently where they are length-of-stay.

I'm going to move this to our resorts board.

Even if you don't know where you got the mug, just look at the mug and it will say the resort/park on it.

I don't want to get embroiled in a debate, but given the amount of attention this topic receives I made a point of reading all the posted signs regarding mugs at the resorts we stayed at last week (WL, Poly, POR). All the signs said the mugs were good for unlimited refills during the lenght of your stay. It didn't specify otherwise (ie. for the trip on which you purchased the mug). That combined with info provided by CM's makes the "official policy" a little nebulous.

It used to be an even more nebulous question and, in fact, it was easy to use your mug from visit to visit. We bought mugs at CBR in 2000 and used them as recently as July 2002. I don't recall their being any policy posted on the signs. To me the current policy is pretty clear and their intent is that you not be able to come back and use the mug again.

They've cut some of the questions out by changing the mug designs too. The CBR mugs being sold now are completely different that the ones we bought in 2000 (and different from the description on allearsnet, if I correctly remember what the new ones look like), so we couldn't use our old mugs again.

Even today, however, I don't think there's any way they could really stop you if you had a current design mug. Short of demanding that you produce a current receipt, that is. As long as you're not abusing the priviledge horrendously, I can't imagine that they'd even ask.

If you have "old" resort mugs from previous trips...USE THEM.
With this question, you are going to get a varity of answers.
"6 in one hand...half a dozen in the other."

However, on your OP...you mentioned you bought your mug on an Xmas trip some 2 years ago and it had hot chocolate in it.

The only time I ever remember buying a mug with hot chocolate in it was at MGM at the Osbourn Light Festival. It was $10. (so sad that there were no Osbourn Lights this year.)

Does the mug light up ?

I have NO problem using old resort mugs for future trips. BUT if this mug you have is the Osbourn Lights Mug...I would not use it at a resort.

I posted a question similar to this on my 1st thread...

We are going once again in February and will be so glad to get new mugs for WL...

However, DH LOVED going to CBR with the mugs on our last trip. He also loved breakfast there. Concerned that he is going to smuggle mugs from our last trip to CBR! We will be renting a car ... what should I do?

Geez, not sure you really mean it!!! :)

I was at WL last week and bought a new mug. It looks just like all the other mugs we have, but it has the following imprinted on it: Free refills until end of your stay, and Refills good only at location purchased.

Maybe this might help answer this question more clearly?

Ok, whoever posted about the Osbourne lights was right. That is where we got it. So since it wasn't from a resort, what do I do? I'm going to assume that I shouldn't try to use it at this point.

 I had no idea this was a "hot" topic.

The souvenier mugs that you get at the parks are not refillable. Unless it is for something special. They sell them at the popcorn stands and other places. Just a souvenier, that's all. Only resort mugs and water park mugs are refillable.

We have that Osborne light mug as well. They aren't refillable. I remember them being a little expensive, though. :D

If they don't change the design, and I paid for the mug, (me - I'm not borrowing my sister's mug or what ever) what is the difference between you buying a mug and staying for 7 days, and me buying a mug for a 3-day stay and coming back to the same resort for a 4-day stay some months later???

Last time I went to a resort on property, I bought TWO mugs, one for me, one for my brother. I am bringing it back, and I told DB to find his and bring it back. (Chances are, his is lost. He will buy another if it is.) Believe me, no WAY did the two of us come close to drinking enough to come out ahead on those mugs....and we tried.....and that is not counting the THOUSANDS of dollars we easily spent otherwise.

Now, you could make a case that it would be wrong for me to give my mug to my sister to take with her when SHE stays at that same resort, and I would agree. You could make a case that it would be wrong for me to buy one mug for me and my brother to share, and I would agree. Also you can't buy a mug at one resort and refill it at another resort or at the park, or bring it back to another resort, and I would agree.

To me, those signs make it clear to people who might not understand the concept that you can enjoy your very expensive mug for more than just today - you don't have to buy one each day that you are there - it is good until you leave, and you can keep filling it up.

Frankly - I'm coming back for the REST of my stay at that on-property hotel. (Having said that, I hope they didn't change the design.)

to me, it means that it is good for that length of stay, period.
The sign is clear. What you do is your business.

Maddle, I am not following your logic. It doesn't take too many drinks to get your monies worth out of them. At the price of beverages you get a return on your money in several days if you use them several times during the day.

The signs now state that the mug is good for length of stay when you purchased it. I don't think it can be any clearer than that.

No, they don't say that, at least not at WL or the Poly.

At WL the sign says they mug is good for the length of your stay at Roaring Forks. It doesn't say good for the length of your stay when you purchased it at Roaring Forks. Perhaps a minor difference, but significant. You are right, good for the length of stay when you purchased it would be very clear. Wonder why they haven't changed to that?

At the Poly, all the signs says is that the mug is good for unlimited refills at Capatain Cook's. Again, no language specific to the trip on which you purchased the mug.

Not that I really want to debate this topic yet again as I'm more than happy to follow CM instructions and reuse my mug and have folks here call me a thief, but I just have to make sure posts are accurate. While you may have seen a sign at one resort (where was that?) that said good for the length of stay when you purchased it, it does not say that at WL or Poly. I went out of my way to take notice of exactly what the signs said.

I would say use them again, untill someone says otherwise.Disney is not going broke over a 2 cent refill.fountain soda is cheap.

They may not say that at the resort you stayed at but there sure say that at CBR where I have stayed several times this year. It is on the mugs and over the beverage bar.
