Occasionally, I ask DH stupid questions. I asked him if our dog and cat wonder why they can't talk in words like we do.

He gave me this look.

So FINE THEN. I'll ask my DIS friends and they'll know what I mean.

I hope.;)

So do they???

::yes::

but . . . do you ever wonder why we can't talk like pets??? ;)

thats a good question. but look like 20 million years down the road. maybe the language gap will be conquered. u never know. and thats if were still the dominate species on earth.

See, WE can talk like THEM, but it doesn't work the other way around. Do you think that bugs them?

since when were we dominate? just ask a cat:) they'll let you know we are the lessor species just here to meet thier needs and wants and provide for thier every wish:)

Sometimes I think George (see my avatar) is talking to me, and I know that he gets ticked because I don't do whatever it is that he is telling me!

It's a good thing he's cute! ;) <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_2_23.gif' border=0></a>

Yes to both. Although my cat thinks he's talking to me and I'm totally understanding him. He's a Siamese with a wide variety of (mostly loud ;) ) meows, and will repeat himself *exactly* if I don't "get it" the first time. He has me fairly well trained these days, but he had to put in a lot of work when I first adopted him.

People who don't live with cats (especially Meezers) probably think I'm either crazy or totally making that up. But it's true!!

ahhh! But do we know what we're saying? I mean really know??

It's almost like saying people who speak a different language from you can't talk :p. Cats and dogs can talk, they just speak a different language ;)

MHopkins you are so right. My cat has a very distinctive "meow" for different things. His "feed me" meow is very assertive. If I don't come running immediately, he turns it up considerably.;)

coco has us trained so well she really doesnt need to meow anymore,, she has these looks,, and certain paw points and fluff patterns,, almost like she uses sign language to communicate, right now shes trying to tell me its bed time,, she ready to go to the bedroom and sleep,, shes sitting on back of the couch( right behind me at the desk, couch is in front to hide my mess) lightly purring and se is turning her head from me to door,, and every few min she reaches out and taps my shoulder, shadow is out side he got mad when dd went to friends for night and hes decided to stay out side with brotherkitty,, i've brought him in twice he loves on me afew min then scratches at the door to get out again,, in the morning at 545 coco will start fluffing my arm if i am not up by 6 15 she will move to my stomach and start fluffing it,, ( 545 is the time my alarm went off for the first 4 yeras she shared our bed,, 6 15 is the time i would get to kitchen to feed her breakfast at that time) she will curl up with dw at 10 25 every night, thats past bed time and time for her mommy lovin for the night, she will also tell us if she doesnt like the tv show we have on or if we turned it off somehting she was watching. dw's cat uses sign language..

Funny how they don't speak people talk but they get their point across!

And I'm weirder than you. Just the other day I was trying to teach my little dog Nicki to speak people talk. She just looked at me like

MHopkins, I also agree with everything you said. I live with 3 Siamese cats and one of them in particular (Bailey) is MY cat. She DEFINITELY has me well trained (or so she thinks). She is a lap cat and only wants affection when SHE'S ready for it (most of the time it's when I'm trying to go to sleep). She also has a loud voice that's VERY hard for me to ignore when she wants me to pet her. So, yes I do think that she does speak my language (just a little differently) :teeth: :p
