Since most of the folks who use this board seem to be hooked on going to Disney on a regular basis and , like myself, must stay at a Disney resort, I thought it would be a good place to ask this question. Is it just because I live in the west or does everyone have the same problem. Most people think that I am crazy to choose Disney as my vacation destination year after year. I see it as the perfect vacation place that suits every vacation requirement. I will never stop going, nor do I ever tire of it. But I find myself constantly justifying these trips to people I know. Is it just a local phenomenom or do you all experience it. Why is it a person can own a second home or time share in Mexico and go year after year and not have their sanity questioned. My love of going to WDW is the butt of many a joke. Must I find new companions in life or is everyone's non-Disney friends and family alike?

I am Canadian and LOVE Disney... my daughter (9) and I have gone three years in a row now and just can't get enough... and these are 2 week trips I am talking about.

I was a travel agent for 10 years and have been all over the world.. I cannot say I have enjoyed anywhere more than Disney and even more so now that I am a Mom.

And yes.. when I said we were going again this year I got lots of AGAIN??? from my friends and family - thats because they don't "get it" like we do. LOL

They say "Why don't you try somewhere else?" and I almost did - I had a 10 day trip booked to Atlantis... but ended up cancelling it in favour of a 16 night trip this summer. It just did't feel right!

Don't worry about what others think... everyone here sticks together, supports and encourages each other and totally UNDERSTANDS the need!

Have fun on your next trip and many, many more...

Many people shake their heads in bewilderment and tsk tsk loudly at my love of Disney and my passion for WDW. I don't care what they think! ;) They don't know what they are missing!

And... there are many people who share my passion and I think they are the ones who have their heads screwed on straight.

:jester: Oh phooey! WDW is the happiest place on Earth and most just don't know how to be happy!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Hi - We are from PA and friends just look at my husband and me when we talk about our annual December Disney trip. But we don't care. They don't know what they are missing. We agree - Disney has something for everyone. My husband gets to play golf in December and we just have a great time. So phooo phooo to those who don't understand how we feel about Disney. A year without Disney just wouldnt feel right!:D

They think I am obsessed (and I am) but I'm a whole lot happier then they are! :p

Pretty much, yes! What they really find strange is that we go at least once a year & have no kids to take along (our son will be 30 this year). We find it a great, relaxing adult place to be that has everything we need & want in a vacation. Can't wait for our next trip in 2 weeks!!

Of course people think I'm nuts. I think I'm nuts. But I love Disney. It makes me happy. I go to the Disney Store and I'm smiling.

So would I like to see cancun, bahamas, barbados. Sure. But where will I go - DISNEY of course.

M I C (see ya real soon)

K E Y (Y because we love Disney)

M O U S E !!!!!!!!!!!

and Donald and Minne, and Pluto and goofy and BUZZ and woody and Chip and Dale and so on and so on.

OK time for my prozac!!! LOL (just kidding)

We've been averaging about 2 trips per year since 1998, and before that we traveled mainly to the caribbean. Since the arrival of our 2nd daughter I just find it easier to vacation at Disney. There is always something to do unlike alot of the islands where most of our time was spent laying on the beach with fruity island drinks. (oh those were the days!!) Anyhow, I think I enjoy WDW more than my kids. The last trip the 5yo was like...not again. (little brat LOL) So the answer is yes, most of our friends do think I'm nuts with all these trips. But for me the planning is sometimes better than actual trip.

Yes, people think we are crazy. But, all you have to do is take them with you one time, and show them how great it can be.

Example:

My sister had been to DisneyWorld twice with our parents(after I had grown up and moved out, of course, they never took me!!) She absolutely HATED IT with a passion both times. I don't even know why they went a 2nd time. They stayed at the Ramada Maingate or something like that both times, went in the summer, waited in horribly long lines......you get the picture.

So, when I asked her to go with us in 1998 to be our babysitter/helper when we took the kiddos for the 1st time, she was not exactly thrilled, but agreed. We stayed at the YC, did early entry, swam/napped in afternoon, back to a park in the evening. We had breakfast at Cinderella's Castle, we had dinner at Chef Mickey's, etc. You should have seen her laughing uncontrollably at the Magic Kingdom during early entry when she could walk on any ride she wanted!! She jokingly said she was going to kill our parents for making her wait over an hour for "It's a Small World"

Now, she goes along every trip and tries to make her boyfriend and our parents understand why!!!

So, the people who question your desire to return to Disney may be people with not so fond memories of past trips!! Or else, they are just people who have never been at all!!

Yes, my non-Disney folk think I have been brainwashed by the mouse. It is a great happy place, people are generally well behaved and you get great service plus all these helpful people on boards like this one.

Not sure what more you can ask for

Throw in the occassional "more exotic" vacation to see the world and what else could anyone want?

So yes you are :crazy:/:earseek: nuts for loving Disney and that is part of the magic of the place

Thanks
Jason

They take their vacations.........
We take ours !!
We obviously are excited by where we go (year after year), and is where we will go next year.
We apparently enjoy the hustle and bustle of Disney (although the quiet times are nice too)
They enjoy whatever they do..............
We don't beat them up for that !!
Maybe they don't take enough vacations for us to notice............
Just the start of a fun thread !!

I know someone with a timeshare in Branson Missouri !!!

Now that's nuts!

Wow! A 10 day trip to Atlantis ...
Do they have a Website?

I cant find Atlantis in any of my travel material! ;-)

Everyone but my 16 yr old son and a couple I got hooked on Disney thinks I'm crazy.

But, guess who they all come to when they want to take their kids to Disney. I could make a fortune if I got licensed as a travel agent :)

Hey what the heck I have a 12 step program, not to stop going to WDW but to help me get there oftener :)

When we say we are planning a vacation our family does not even ask where.... they know! They don't think there is anything wrong with going to Vegas 2-3 times a year but think we are crazy to go to Disney so much.

We were fortunate enough to spend 3 weeks there earlier this year and most of my family/friends made comments. One even said "well now you will be able to see it all and you won't have to go back" Some people just do not get it.

On the flip side, I have managed to help 2 friends discover the advantages of visiting Disney as much as possible. They are much happier now! :)

I've gone every year since 1999 and intend to keep doing so.

I may vary my Disney Destination (Japan and Paris are planned) and the Party I take but I have no probs returning to a Disney resort.

Fun in the Sun holidays (Hawaii, the Islands etc) bore me. Im not the Cruise type. Surf and Ski is me but I can get all that here in New Zealand. Historical and Cultural tours are great but I need much for time than the two weeks I currently use for overseas trips.

Disney Resorts ,IMHO, are comfortable to me. A Safe base to reach out from and return to in the evenings. Friendly staff with consistant standards also helps. I feel there are no real surprises when staying at a Disney resort which is what one really want on vacation.

Hi there...

Yes you can visit Atlantis at this link

"MISERY LOVES COMPANY", and they all want me to STAY here and WORK...like they do!! LOL. I WORK all year, JUST so I can PLAY AT DISNEYWORLD! After close to 15 consecutive years of annual treks to WDW (which have now blossomed into a 7+ week annual sojourn), we OBVIOUSLY LOVE IT! I never question others when they fly "home" to spend a mosquito-infested summer week with family in MINNESOTA, or another CAMPING TRIP @ Lake WANNABEDISNEY, OR A TRIP to our NATIONS'S CAPITAL....we GET ALL of this at WDW, and SO MUCH MORE! LOL. In 1992, we spent 40 days driving across this country, taking-in every national monument (even Niagara Falls & the MAID of the MIST)...So, Been there~Done that....NOT GOING BACK. Disney, is another story entirely. It's a MAGICAL WORLD within a WORLD. When we are THERE, we are REMOVED from the rest of the REAL world. We are OBLIVIOUS to things like, BILLS & JOBS, the usual things which TIE us to our FORTS. We are 100%+ FREE of these restraints. We RUN, PLAY, and ACT like children. We feel 20+ years younger. WDW "IS" the FOUNTAIN of YOUTH Ponce De Leon searched for in Florida. Walt tapped the Spring, and VOILA! We all partake of the glorious WATER! So, drink-it-up, and BE MERRY. As for the non-believers..."LET THEM EAT CAKE"! :p

OH gosh yes! Everyone thinks I'm insane for wanting to travel to Disney year after year! One person in particular really questions my sanity: my boss. She's constantly making fun of me and ridiculing me. So, of course, since she's my boss, I can't exactly tell her to shut up! She's been to the World six times now in six years. She has said, "I've seen it all." I asked her if she's ever been to Downtown Disney. No. Waterparks? NO. Pleasure Island? No. Resort hopping? No. Boardwalk entertainment? No. Wide World of Sports? No. Dinner shows? No. Ft. Wilderness activities? No. Water Sprites? No. Richard Petty Driving Experience? No. When I told her we were staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge she responded with " I didn't know they had one." I mean, for a woman who has been to Disney 6 times, you'd think she'd know these things!! I've never heard of anyone going that many times and never been to Downtown Disney!!!! So, now I realize why she thinks I"m crazy for wanting to go year after year: she just hasn't experienced the "magic."

Now when she makes fun of me, I silently thank the Lord that I have such great parents who showed me how to experience Walt Disney World..and not end up with a parent like her who doesn't have that special pixie dust.
