Do people really want to stay at the Poly water bungalows?

I don't understand why Disney is building those water bungalows at the Poly? The water in that lake is nasty! There are reasons why Disney won't let you swim in it. Anyone else feel this way?

I'll trade you my standard room at ASMu. I mean, really?

The lakes are actually very nice at night. I can imagine the rooms and views will be spectacular. I prefer our home resort (BLT) but i bet they will be very nice.

I can't think of anything more un-magical than staying in one of those things. I would be so worried about a snake crawling in from the water.

I stayed in a overwater bungalow in Bora Bora. That was truly magical.:goodvibes

Omg this would be my biggest fear. I am sure the bungalows will be very popular but they are so not for me!!

EXACTLY!!! No way would I waste money shelling out for these. Bora Bora is on my bucket list....WDW Poly...no way.

In addition, in talking with some of the boat captains last week when we were there, the amount of sinkholes opening up within Bay Lake is quite high...I would be SO nervous about a sinkhole pulling my bungalow in at night. Ick.

And then add in the gators, snakes, and massive amounts of bugs....not on your life.

oh m god, you just hit on my most irrational fear!! sinkholes!! (I live in Chicago :rotfl:)

Soooo....sinkholes in Bay Lake??

As far as the critters:

It's Florida. There is wildlife. The first floor rooms are in more danger of invasion than an above ground structure.

But honestly you're more likely to have to deal with bugs on the water then snakes and alligators, both of whom prefer tall grass and muddy banks to wood pylons.

A few years ago, there was a blogger who had a snake in their 2nd fl CR wing room. They were in the room with a sick kiddo, and looked up at the drapes. There was a large mama snake warming her eggs. It seemed to have been there for a while. There were LOTS of pictures. It's one of those "if you didn't see it with your own eyes, you wouldn't believe it". There was a nice long thread on this board.:scared1:

Alligators can't climb, but they are there! This one was estimated at 8 to 10 feet by castmember.:scared1:

If this works, I wonder if Disney will consider building DVC bungalows over the Rivers of America or perhaps in the AK?

I think the idea of the water bungalows is to mimic the image of the popular over water bungalows in Bora Bora. I don't think it has anything to do with water clarity, as you aren't allowed in the water due to the encephalitis inducing amoeba that lives in the lakes. The bungalows might be priced at the cost of traveling to Bora Bora given the cost of all the new DVC properties. LOL. Either way, I think it will look pretty cool.

I would LOVE to stay in one and probably will....... I do fear snakes though!!! Is there some way, since these are over the water that they can prevent this? netting or something? Is that even possible?

I am reserving judgement until they're complete, and I can read a few trip reports. I like the idea in theory, particularly if they have gorgeous views. We're not going to buy more points at the Poly, but we'll probably try to book them if they're available at 7 months some time.

Are snakes that big a deal? I've seen the alligators and lizards but never a snake. That would be the one thing that would make my happy place very unhappy. I guess I hadn't heard they were that common?!?

Snakes are everywhere in Florida, including Disney. When we lived in Jacksonville, on two separate occasions, one swam right by me in our Condo pool. They're very fast.

When my niece worked at Typhoon Lagoon, fishing out snakes was a near-daily occurrence.

I think that would be cool to stay in, but you wont catch me in the water. I have a fear of alligators ;)

I agree with PP that they will be booked solid for quite a while. I will book one at first opportunity!

:rotfl2: The bungalows aren't IN the water, and neither will you be if you stay in one. They are built OVER the water. No one is going to be allowed to swim there.

I understand the concept of these. They are just the Disney version of similar bungalow resorts common all over the south Pacific. They fit perfectly into the theme of the Poly. But for the price, I will choose the real thing in the real Polynesia, where I CAN dive into the water from my deck.

No, there isn't. Someone found a mother snake and her eggs in the curtain valance in a tower room at the Contemporary.

Wow - what a trip!

I read that thread over 5 years ago when it happened - and I haven't forgotten it! To this day I still check the curtain rods when I get in my rooms!! I have a snake phobia & that thread was as scary as watching Jaws as a little kid.

I cannot wait to try & book Poly DVC!

My SIL sent the link to me when she found out I was planning a trip to Disney World-gotta love the relatives!
