Do people really want to stay at the Poly water bungalows?

I can't think of anything more un-magical than staying in one of those things. I would be so worried about a snake crawling in from the water.

I stayed in a overwater bungalow in Bora Bora. That was truly magical.:goodvibes

At $800-$1200/night? (I'm thinking prices would be similar to Treehouses) I'd be amazed if they are booked solid. And there prob won't be discounts. But that's me.

They will be booked solid with DVC points.

I do - at least ONCE. I doubt I'd pay that rate for more than one trip but I've paid close to that rate for special occasions at GF.

Frankly though, I think the Hawaii building TPV will still be a "better" view/experience for the cost.

I don't think I would. The water does smell bad in the warm months & there's not enough Disney magic in the world to change that. Plus I would be scared to walk out & have a nice snake to greet me, then I would end up in the water..I'd fall in trying to get away! :lmao: And as someone else mentioned the BUGS!! So, nope not for me. Also, I'm still bitter they're putting those things there & ruining the view. Our favorite room was the ground floor Hawaii room in the middle, from the pics it looks like those views have been ruined by the DVCs.

If I have the chance, I'd stay in one for the experience and also the view. However, I'll wait to hear some IRL reviews. I imagine the view will be so spectacular that nothing else would compare. Sort of how I used to feel about our Hawaii first-floor patio view, which is now gone, sadly:(.

Although I would like to stay there, I am also a (former?) Hawaii ground floor TPV lover. So I think those rooms won't be the same.

Worries about snakes and bugs will probably keep me away. I would love to stay in one otherwise, IF I could afford the high prices I expect.

My paranoid thoughts excately. Creepy crawleys coming up. And the ridiculous thing is i doubt if bora bora costs much, if even more than these

I would not stay there because I absolutely do not like the Poly in general. Creepy resort.

But I like the idea of rooms built up on the water. I think it will be a very special place to stay for people who like the Poly. The chances of snakes climbing up are low, I would not be afraid of this, but my concern would be mosquitos in the evening / at night.

to conclude:
nice idea for building new rooms, but not for me

I think they will be booked solid up to capacity every time of the year because of the special location

The whole appeal of staying in a bungalow over the water is the WATER.Crystal clear and beautiful-a treat.Murky and full of bacteria-less than desirable, and the COST is ridiculous.

Absolutely agree here! Being in a bungalow over tropical clear water is one thing but staying in one over mirky water is just not appealing to me at all. So no, I would not waste my money in one of these bungalows.

I don't understand why Disney is building those water bungalows at the Poly? The water in that lake is nasty! There are reasons why Disney won't let you swim in it. Anyone else feel this way?
Location, Location, Location,

Once DVC sells out, even if they aren't occupied they are paid for (In simple turns). If they do keep some available for cash I would think there enough people to fill the ones available. Heck there are rooms at GF and Poly that seem to come close to that price now in peak season. I wouldn't doubt it would be more! Out of my budget range but not everyone's. With only a handful being built I think occupancy won't be an issue.

I would certainly never stay in one. I'd be too terrified of falling in or inclement weather causing an issue with the water. Not appealing to me.

1- Kind of doubt there won't be railings/rope/netting along walkway to prevent a plunge.

2- Not sure what inclement weather would do to the water. I don't think the self contained lake will have any Tsunami's, or massive waves crashing into the bungalws

I wasn't worried about that until you mentioned it! :scared1:

In regards to gators, and I hate all reptiles. I know they are out there and have seen photos etc of them at WDW. I don't think they climb very well, and I have never seen them near the beaches of the resort. With that said I will now be terrified of the beaches, trails, woods, pools at Disney,,, thank you very much ;)

As far as the critters:

It's Florida. There is wildlife. The first floor rooms are in more danger of invasion than an above ground structure.

But honestly you're more likely to have to deal with bugs on the water then snakes and alligators, both of whom prefer tall grass and muddy banks to wood pylons.

I'd love to stay there and have no desire to swim in the water. Still neat looking. Especially if they have a little porch where one can sit and quaff tropical drinks.

True to form Disney is trying to immerse the guest in the dedicated theme for each resort. The real Polynesian island resorts have those bungalows over the water.. so you gotta give kudos for the effort...

They WILL be booked solid because of the location. They're not for me mainly because we would never pay the price just to sleep there. We are 'go' people and enjoy the parks, area, too much to just stay at the hotel, no matter how nice they are.

EXACTLY!!! No way would I waste money shelling out for these. Bora Bora is on my bucket list....WDW Poly...no way.

In addition, in talking with some of the boat captains last week when we were there, the amount of sinkholes opening up within Bay Lake is quite high...I would be SO nervous about a sinkhole pulling my bungalow in at night. Ick.

And then add in the gators, snakes, and massive amounts of bugs....not on your life.
