Do people REALLY ask for an extra bun for a double burger????

I think getting the extra bun is a great idea! My partner and I tend to get incredibly hungry in the middle of the afternoon after all the walking, but we're both hesitant to order an entire meal. Especially if we have PS for a big dinner. So usually we either grin and bear it, or buy a lunch size meal. Thus ruining our appetites for dinner.

Then, I found out something that WDW does not advertise or suggest. Did you all know you can order things a la carte? You never have to order the entire meal. You can order just a burger, no fries or anything. That, in and of itself, is a big money and belly saver!

My impression was that you were getting the second bun for FREE! If Disney is charging then they have figured out the gig. If you are paying then I apologize.

I still think that making a salad out of the fixin bar is going too far and I do pile it on there! LOL!

I think Disney figured it out a little, that's why they charge you something for the bun. Disney makes a small fortune on the 95% of visitors that do no research before their visit. Those that do rely on the ample portions to feed more than 1 person are few and far between in the grand scheme of things!

While it might be a little awkward asking at first, remember, the CM's don't know you, see thousands upon thousands of people a day and any dollars saved can and will be put to better use.

Save on DISers!

I have a question....ethical one....

I don't agree to use the "fixing bar" for a salad as that is essentially "stealing" (my opinion, please don't bash me!)...unless you buy something else (i.e. hamburger, chix burger, etc) that it would normally go on.

BUT...I'm a vegetarian. If I purchase a bun, then I'm paying for an item...would it be kosher to use the fixing bar at that time since I bought the bread (not sure what types of vegetarian choices I have...and I don't like plain salad, but "salad on bread" is fine...lol)....I'd also be buying a drink, and probably fries, or another side....

Plummer925 - if your buying something I'm sure using the fixins' is okay. Also, almost all food service has some salad items on the menu.

I know it's really healthy but I just don't know how you go without any meat! Good for you though!

Handymom;

Actually, I'm an on-again, off-again vegetarian. I try really hard, but I do end up eating meat way more than I should. I re-committed just last night in fact to doing this....so far so good...lol

I'm looking forward to the veggie choices at the sit-down restaurants, but I'm not a huge salad fan, and I don't really care for "veggie burgers" either (they have a funny texture), so I'm not sure what my options are at the food-court type places....

Thanks!!

Crystal

If I were you I would max out at a breakfast buffet everyday and then just nibble on snacks until I could get back to a resort food court for better veggie selections.

I'm a big fan of breakfast anyways! Now if I could just opt out of the bacon and sausage I'd be all set.... It's just soooooooo good!

I admire your determination. My sister is a vegetarian and when I cook I always make a section of the casserole veggie just for her.

I learned about the second bun idea off these boards and used it at Pecos Bill's last week. The burgers are very large and they charged 79 cents for the second bun. The CM said that people do it all the time and that she thought it was great way to save money. DH and I also split the fries and pop. We both had plenty to eat!

Oh, yes-- Pecos Bill's is one of the places where they have sauted onions in their fixins' bar. Yum!

with the exception of Mr. Snob, our waiter at Boma, I found all the other wait staff at Disney seem to get the concept that "disney costs a lot" and tried to help us save money.many made suggestions and with that one exception never made us feel like cheapskates and so got a great tip! we split at least 65% of our meals (except for buffets and a couple of others.)

lol!! well throw it my way so I don't have to buy one!:wave2:

Plummer925, I'm also vegetarian. There are vegetarian choices at WDW but I do get tired of eating the same thing (e.g., I get really tired of veggie burgers!). I would like to order a kids meal sometimes, just for a change--I would like to eat macaroni and cheese or a peanut butter & Jelly sandwich.

Has anybody ever ordered a kid's meal as an adult?? I wouldn't think the staff would care but I've always been too chicken to do it.

You can order anything on the menu. It's not a buffet or something that offers refills, so why not?

Also, remember the previous post that says you can order anything on the menu a la carte. The Unofficial Guide says this is also a great way to save money and not waste food you won't eat anyways

Sure....why not? I wouldn't feel "funny" about it if I were you...after all, how do they know who you are ordering it for?

I've never really paid attention before...do they discourage you from ordering kids' meals..??

Sammy

When we were at WDW last, I always ordered the kids meals at walk up places for me. I can't eat a huge burger in the middle of the day, and the selections on the kids menu usually appealed to me. I also found out that you can request carrot sticks instead of chips or fries, and they come with a side of ranch dressing (I think you could also get peanut butter to dip them in). So I felt like I was eating sensibly AND healthily (veggies, you know!)

No one ever said boo.

Good Question! Thanks!! I've wondered the same thing! There are 3 guys at our house and I don't eat as much as they do! This one is good to know!!
