Do people REALLY ask for an extra bun for a double burger????

The extra bun I guess would work for most. I would think a double burger would be way too much meat and a waste for many people. I may try this for my kids.

Do people really do this? Unbelievable.

Isn't this the days of Aktins...should you be throwing your buns away not ordering extras!! ;)

Maybe it's just me, but if I was Disney I would start charging you for a second sandwich if you asked for the second bun. That is basically what you are getting, a second sandwich!

Sorry, I just think this one is fishy.

It is a FIXIN bar, not a salad bar. Abuse like this will get these discontinued. (Maybe that is why the great fixin bar at MGM left!)

No you are paying for a second bun to separate the double burger you just paid for. Disney does charge more for a double burger vs. a single burger no?

If Disney is not a bit ashamed to charge $6-7 for a hamburger why should I be shy to ask to BUY an extra bun. Most places have bargains such as this they just do not advertise them.

I went to Burger King to eat with some other low carb friends and one of us saw the advertised low carb special for $6. Boy was she irked when she realized that the other lady and I ordered the $1 double cheeseburger without bun and side salad for only $2 while she only got a beef patty and a few scraps of lettuce.

I would not make a salad at a fixings bar though. Would put as many of the fixings as I could fit on my bunless burger though. Wonder if they would deduct $1.10 for NOT getting the bun?

Slightly Goofy/Linda

When I buy a $6. Shari's cheese burger they bring it open with lettice, tomato, pickles, onions, on the side, and a special sauce on the bun top. I leave the lettice, tomato, pickles on the plate, scrape the sauce on to the lettice, tomato, pickles and eat it as a salad.

I put ketchup on my burger.

Now why would I change this "Shari's habit" at WDW??

I think this is great, my youngest DS is really fussy about what he will eat, for example he will eat the bun but not the burger (he won't eat it if any ketchup etc is on it though), so maybe this would be good for him. I would never thought of doing this, but then here in England we are more reserved about asking for things, but my Grandmother always used to say, 'if you don't ask you don't get!'.

We usually just cut the double burger in half but I wouldn't have a problem ordering a second bun. Nothing fishy or underhanded about it as I am still paying for what I am getting.

I'm putting this under learn something new everyday:sunny: :sunny:

My impression was that you were getting the second bun for FREE! If Disney is charging then they have figured out the gig. If you are paying then I apologize.

I still think that making a salad out of the fixin bar is going too far and I do pile it on there! LOL!

great savings suggestion.

I always find the meals very generous and I dislike throwing away the leftovers, now I can share.

This little suggestion will save us some $ on our next trip.

I understand that just cutting the double burger in half would be the cheapest alternative, but it's not the same. Where are the best places to do this? My DH and I are pigs and we don't usually split food, but this would be ideal for that in between big meal snack.

At fast food places I just about never order my own drink. I just drink Hubby's!

I like the idea of sharing the drinks. :) I know my son and I never finish either of our drinks so might as well just split the large one. I should bring an extra cup or something.

I still don't know about this burger thing though. I just don't see myself doing it, even though it is obvious you guys are saving some money. :) I will though, from now on, order Ala Carte for either my burger or my son's chicken strips because never in a million years do we finish all those fries.

DD and I used one voucher and split a double-cheeseburger last month at Pecos Bill's. I did order the extra bun, which came in it's own food tray, so it looked as if I was making a veggie sandwich for myself. I didn't order the large soda because I had water, and to my knowledge, I was not charged for the extra bun....maybe because I didn't request the large drink? not sure about this... In Epcot, I think we were charged $.60 or $.70 for a bun.

Anyway, with the dessert that's included with a voucher, and the added bun, DD and I were STUFFED!!

DH, on the other hand, ordered a double bacon cheeseburger with his voucher and ate the whole darn thing by himself, AND he finished his entire dessert!! DD and I just stared at him with amazement. DD said, "What a pig!" DH just snorted out an "oink" and licked his dessert plate. DD was mortified. ;)

Ok, a bit off topic, but you brought it up..

if you make a salad out of Pecos Bill's toppings bar, what do you use for dressing? Mustard? Plain Mayo?

Hum... love salad, not sure about this, though...

Another thing about the extra buna nd Disney food offerings. I do not know if anyone has ever noticed or wanted it but Disney does not serve peanut butter sandwiches without Jelly. My DD (5)hates jelly so the extra bun idea is a great thing forme. I just bring those peanut butters in a tube for her bread. I get carrots with my meal. DH gets fries. We share the fries and she eats the PB sandwich and carrots. She then actually eats something at Disney instead of being so picky and stubborn about not eating. Works great for me. She isn'tcranky and everyone eats. Is this being rude or in some way cheating Disney. I do not think so, because at least they get the bun price for her meal instead of nothing for the food she won't eat. I have had CMs come up and encorage her to eat hers andwich and tell me what a great idea it is. Yea! for extra buns.:bounce:

daisylove- Thank you for posting about the jelly thing. My DD also hates jelly and it never occured to me that they couldn't hold the jelly.

If you like Thousand Island, you use mayo, ketchup, and relish.

Eeeewwww..Gross! That's how they make Thousand island dressing??!!! :crazy2:

Now I know I will never try that stuff. My DH eats Thousand Island but I'll stick with my Italian...thank you.

Personnally, making a salad from the fixins bar is just gross to me. It just doesn't look appetizing as a salad bar. Last time I was there I looked around thinking of how I've read on the DIS how people make salads from there. It turned my stomach.

It's perfect for burgers though. I don't know why it makes a difference to me.

But getting an extra bun seems on the level to me if they are charging you for it. If you don't need a whole fries-burger-coke meal, just an extra sandwich, I'd say "go for it!" Super idea!
