Do people criticize you because you go to Disney

I don't get criticism exactly...but eye-rolling and snickers for sure. People say things like, "AGAIN???", "What do you DO there?", "Haven't you ridden everything by now???"--people either get it or they don't!:confused3

I realize this is a semi old post, but that is so true.

This is the 4th trip - just the DH and me! He likes the whole thing - so who am I to stop the visits! BTW we have grown children, four grandsons!

Not really OPEN criticism, but I'm sure they are thinking we are crazy and probably criticizing behind our backs. I feel like I have to back up my decision for loving Disney, but I try not to worry about it. It's what we enjoy, so we do it!

I always get the "Disney again?" question and I just smile and say "you bet!" I love going. I went my first time in 1993 at 27 yoa and couldn't believe that I waited so long to get there. I have been hooked ever since, my DD was born in 1997 and I took her for her first time in 2000, she can tell you what we did down to the minute because it made such an impression in her little mind that she remembers to this day her 1st trip to WDW. We have been a total of 27 times since and love it each and every time we go, we always do something new each time and it is always an adventure. When we come home from a trip I instantly get online and start looking for deals to WDW. We are AP holders for the last 2 years and it has been great because we can go as many times as we want and save a ton of money.
I took my DD snow skiing in 2006 and for Spring Break 2007 I gave her a choice of another ski trip or Disney she never batted an eye and instantly chose Disney, we had a blast as always. This trip I took her horseback riding at the Wilderness Lodge Campground and now she absolutely loves horses and can't wait to go again. This is a place where no matter how old you are you can forget about the outside world even if its just for a little while and be a carefree kid again and don't we all need that?pirate: pirate:

My DH and I have grown children and a grandchild now. We have taken (and continue to take) many fanstastic vacations to Europe, Hawaii, etc. But there is no place like WDW. Sorry, nothing comes close. Last year we were at the World for a week with our kids/spouses, came home and turned around and returned 5 weeks later just the two of us. No matter what time of year we go, which hotel we stay at, or who we go with, it's always the best vacation ever! Even now with 4 months until we head back, I can hardly stand the excitement that is already building as I anticipate the fun we will have. I'm in my 50's and I hope I never get too old for it.

DH & I went w/o kids less than a month ago. And we just booked another trip (w/kids this time) for January. We really just cannot get enough of that place!! :rotfl:

First post here, woohoo, but this is a subject that stood out for me. I have to say that the reaction I get is sarcastic shock and looks of disdain. Luckily I dont give a monkeys what folk think. I am looking forward to my next trip in Sept 08, my 4th, as are those that really matter to me, ie my family and the other family we always come with. The thought of 2 weeks on a Greek or Spanish beach fills me with horror but I always manage to keep my views to myself since its personal choice. I think its a unique reaction reserved by some for those of us who never tire of visiting Disney in the US. Strange but there you go, I never cared the first time and I dont care now............just a mere 363 days till I get to have the 2 best weeks of the year :wizard:

My DH and I also go every year with kids and grandkids. Then we go three more times - just the two of us- for Flower & Garden, Food & Wine and in February on the anniversary of my cancer surgery(11Yrs and counting). No matter how many times we go, I am always ready for the next trip. Lucky enough to live about 2 hours away from my favorite place. We also have been to many places Hawaii, Europe, and although they were great, there's no place like WDW, so if people say AGAIN???, I smile and YES!!!:)

I wanna live closer! I'm lucky we've gone 3 times in 3 years.

My Dh and I get it all the time, it only got worse after we joined DVC. People tell us why don;t you go somewhere different for vacation or you dont have any kids why do you go there

I get that all the time. People who don't get it really don't know what it has to offer. There are so many misconceptions about the resorts and the parks. I had one friend who said, why go to Florida when we have Six Flags an hour away.

I agree, some people don't get it. It's not just roller coasters. We go to Six Flags often since it's a short distance and it's fun, but nothing compares to Disney.

Yea i was working part time on the weekens at six flaggs and your cant compare the two. Disney about being in another fantasy world and six flaggs is about rides.

I have a certain group of friends or people I know that love Disney, they go every few years, not as much as me, but they love it and they get it.

I have a group that really don't get it, but know I am an Annual passholder and that I love WDW and all things Disney and really don't give me a hard time.

I have those that do ask me "Disney World again" and have strangers that just have no clue, make the comments that are just rude, etc...those people I pay no attention too. I love WDW and that is all that matters to me and I know there are so many out there, like you guys that do get it. I do travel to many other places...old and new and I plan on traveling to many, many more, but I will continue to always to do WDW, each and every year.

I am at the point that I don't care what others think-it makes me happy. Also, I don't tell anyone that doesn't get the Disney thing.

DH & I love going to Disney. We don't have any kids and people always criticize us because we love going to Disney. They feel we should be vacationing somewhere else since we don't have kids. They just don't get that Disney is not just for kids. Anyways, I'm just wondering if anyone else gets those same dumb comments and snide remarks from people?
'Our daughter is 22 and we get remarks like why dont you go to the maldives or the like instead of always going to disney, but we love Disney and its us going and not them making the comments so my motto is do what makes you happy and ignore the comments!

Yes but people don't understand the magic. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't understand the magic, don't you? I find that most people that are critical usually spend their vacations in the same place every year too but they don't realize it. LOL

You're right. A lot of people just don't understand the magic. Some of those people have never been to Disney, so they just don't know what they are missing. But I really feel sorry for the people who have been to WDW & still don't get the magic. How can you go to Disney World & come home saying you didn't have a good time?? :confused3

I'm not one to just sit at the beach, nor drive hours to get to a place to visit. We've been to Ireland (yes I'd go back):shamrock: , London (oh, yeah!) etc. But WDW is a vacation! and with all the driving they do for me - extra vacation! If I want to PaTrY around the World  - they still get me 'home'. How cool is that?!
Don't forget to look for us, in 8 days from this post.

I've been going every year since 1998 and, yes, I get the "Disney, again?" looks. Who cares? Now that I'm divorced, it's the one place I can take my two daughters, one medically-needy, and have no worries. Every year I go, some CM goes out of their way to make my daughter feel "special" and it re-establishes itself as the most magical place in the world! We'll NEVER outgrow it!

I get everything from "Take me with you!" (my adult cousins), "Again?!" (my parents) and just down right critism (my inlaws).

But you know what? DH and I like going, we have fun and we come back relaxed. :cool1: Besides they aren't paying for it so they don't get a vote.
