Do people criticize you because you go to Disney

People don't really criticize, but I think it confuses them. We also have been to Europe, Mexico, and other places, so I feel like we travel to a lot of great sites. However, it's hard to compete with the allure of Disney. I agree that "you either get it or you don't." Of course, if more people got it, the parks would be even more crowded!
VERY good point!

Most of my friends just don't get "Disney" - either they've never been or once was more than enough. Same way with my Mom. With me - there's never too much Disney. Had a friend at work that we could spend a whole day just talking about Disney, what to do, where to go, what to eat, where to stay - - - get the jist???? I think I'm driving the others at work totally nuts because it's Disney this & Disney that & will probably be that way until September has come & gone........but do I care.........not really - I'm going to DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!!!!!

Yep all the time. My family and I were just there for almost two weeks in May and upon our arrival home I started to realize that my husband and I could afford to take another trip to celebrate our 30th birthdays and our 5th year wedding anniversary without our kids. I came into work to give my supervisor the days I would be taking off and she casually asks "where are you guys going?" and I reply "we're going back to Disney". "Again? but you just were there and what on earth are you gonna do there without your kids?" as if WDW can only be enjoyed with children. When I tell people I'm only 29 yrs old and I've been 24 times thier eyes bugg out and they say "did you just say 24 times?".

I've been all over this wonderful country of ours, to the islands, and since my husband is from Holland I've been there and to a couple of other countries in Europe and my favorite place to vacation is Disney. My family understands I'm the youngest of five and one of my older sisters has been over 40 times and she and her family gets looks all the time. I think those people are jealous that when we're there we can totally block out the outside world and not to mention that their vacations are nearly as magical as ours and it bugs them that Disney has that effect on us.

Oh all the time....we are in our mid-40's with no kids and get teased all the time. Our house has Disney decor, our cars, our clothes, we are DVC members, annual passholders and have the luxury of living only 4 hours away. Perfect for a weekend jaunt! In fact we are heading for a long weeknd at GF next thursday. Lots of good dinner ressies and spa treatments booked and we plan on plenty of pool time as well. Who says you have to go the parks?? It's Disney - the whole experience is magical :)

DH and I definately get that all the time....from friends, coworkers, parents, anyone who feels we need to hear their opinion  DH and I first went to Disney in 2004 (we were engaged at the time) over spring break senior year of college and no one understood that at all. While all of our friends were getting drunk in Mexico, we were having the best trip of our lives and that's where our Disney obsession began. In October we will be taking our sixth trip and people still ask us why we go back so often....the only thing we can say is that we love it!!! I tell people when I'm at Disney, nothing else in the world matters, and I don't know any other place on earth that can do that for me. We don't have any kids yet, but we will be excited to share the magic of disney with our future children and can't ever imagine our lives without it! Me to Disney =

DH & I love WDW!! We cannot get enough of it! We have 3 kids, and of course, we love to take them, but our upcoming August trip is going to be without kids!! Many of our friends look so shocked when we tell them that we are going this time without kids. Our kids are actually okay with it because they know we will go back soon with them! And yes, most people do not understand why we want to go again & again. My mom has even said to me "But there are so many other interesting places to visit." I know this is true (and actually we do visit other places, too), but each trip to Disney is such a different experience. There is always something new to do/see.

I only knew one person who dared to make snide little comments like that. I shut him up when I pointed out that he went to Vegas a couple of times per year and spent the same amount of money each trip. Disney's more my speed. What happens in WDW can freely be told outside of WDW.

Ive been to DL 1 time and WDW 4. I have to say I dont think we will go back for a few years. Weve done it all a few times! We loved every minute of it!

I still want to go to...

Seaworld
Busch Gardens
back to US & IoA + Citywalk
Kennedy Space Center ( Sept 2007!)

Im also on a mission to see several more beaches in Florida! I want to rent a beach front condo/house and spend time along the Golf Coast touring the beaches, shelling, shops and restaurants!

I want my kids to see other places like...

Grand Cannyon
Hover Dam
KnottsBerry Farms
DL
Beaches in Cali
Texas - Alamo - and Schlitterbahn Beach and water park - BEST IN THE USA!
Love the Smokey Mtns!! - Dollywood

Never been to NYC - hopfully an uncoming adult only trip!

Yeah, I go to disney world every year in september. I just love it! I do however recommend taking your kids to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. I remember my parents taking us throughout 9 western states and seeing Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon (beautiful), GC and hoover Dam. This was back when you could go into the dam and take a tour. I don't think you can do that since 9/11. Too bad. Anyways, it was a trip I'll never forget.

DH and I are going on our 9th trip this September, but it will be our 1st without the kiddies. (anniversary trip for us). We're really looking forward to it because every year we talk about the things we could do if we went without DS and DD. We're looking forward to Jelly Rolls, 8-Trax, shopping, and just having a drink by the pool, and DH can't wait to play golf (while I shop). I can't keep up with the number of times our relatives have tried to convince us to do something more "adult" (cruise, Vegas, etc.) They have no idea that Disney World has so much grown-up stuff to do. I just ignore them now.

What bothers me is when people don't know all WDW has to offer and don't want to learn! When people criticize WDW and I respond that there are lots of things to do that are more adult, or off the beaten path, they interrupt or change the topic. They don't want to be "confused with the facts", I guess.

These same people will pay $3000 for a week at the beach in a small house and $20 per person for beach badges and say that WDW is too expensive.

I agree. Some people just can't see beyond the parks and characters. We have 2 full park-free days scheduled and still have so much that we won't have time to do.

I get critisized 'cos I.m going without them. !! But DSIL thinks I should save my money for more practical things. I think Disney is practical .It's the place where dreams can come true and what is the pricetag for dreams!!!

I tottally agree! My DW and I are DVC members and we frequently go to Disney without the kids. Our anniversary is in August and we're going for 5 days just the two of us next month. My kids understand that when Mom and Dad come back from these trips, we're much happier and it helps us deal with teen-age "attitude" (even from my 10-year-old!). We have taken many trips to Disney with and without our kids and it is two different experiences. The kids vacation is all about them, run here, run there, why can't I do this and on and on...but our "just the two of us" trips are relaxing, romantic, and it helps our relationship tremendously by giving us time to re-connect as just a couple not two people taking care of six children. It can seem like that's all there is to life is taking care of them when we need to set aside time to take care of each other as well. Just a thought.

DO NOT TRY TO CONVINCE THE NON-BELIEVERS....IT KEEPS THE CROWDS DOWN!!! :lmao:

Seriously, some folks just don't get it. They hear Disney and their ears turn off. So many folks just think WDW is one big, child infested theme park and that once is surely enough. Ok, yah, whatever!!!!!

We can't make them all smart.

Until I found this site...I though I was the only one with this obsession.;) I have taken alot of criticism from people about our main vacation destination. It use to upset me and I would try to justify it. Now I just admit to them that I have a problem...:rotfl2:

My husband and I are Disney Nuts and we admit it. We can't get enough. We would rather be at the parks or on a cruise ship than somewhere else...There we said it We are Disneyholics...We just planned our 3rd trip to the world for this year in November can't wait to get there.

DH and I don't have any kids, and this November will be our 3rd trip this year as well! We became DVC members on our last trip in July since we've been 5 times in the past 2 years :) We also get plenty of flack from people not understanding why we like to go so much...I agree with eeyoregon's earlier post about not trying to convince them anymore...the parks ARE crowded enough already! :lmao:

I wish people would get it. The best way for us to relax is to plan and finally
go to the world, as we refer ti wdw. Maybe if I wore me mm ears to work----

I'm glad some people don't get it. That's less people I have to stand in line behind, less I have to fight for rooms at busier times of year and less I have to wait behind to get a seat at my favorite restaurants.
