Do people actually cancel their ADRs

I cancel mine so somebody else can have a chance to get the same ADR. I come on here first though and see if anybody needs it before I cancel it.

Anytime I know that I'm not going to use an ADR, I call Disney Dining and cancel it so some other family can have it. It's just the proper thing to do.

To the OP...good luck getting your ADRs....

I just have to say, LOVE THAT BERNESE!!! SO CUTE:lovestruc

I change my mind about where to eat all the time. So yes, I cancel the original after booking the new one. Restaurant open up all the time.

Good to know, maybe we'll take our chances and phone later rather than sooner.

That's not a plan I'd recommend during Free Dining. You can get away with waiting a bit to call, but I wouldn't wait real long. It's a whole different thing during the FD promotion!

One thing I found with the new system...the CM told me if I wanted to change a time to ask for a modification because if you already have something booked near the same time the new system will not show anything available. It forces people to modify then which leads to spots opening up because of that. I modified an adr and the number stayed the same with the time change.

I did have luck getting adrs by calling back. I appreciate those that canceled. I also cancel as well.

When I called today to check on a later time for my ADR, the CM found one for an hour later than my original. I asked if she needed my confirmation number to change and she said she should book the new one first "while it was available" and then cancelled the earlier. She didn't modify the first.

We always cancel if we find out we're not going to use an ADR even though it's not that big of a deal if if it is a time when the park or resorts are full of people (pre-park opening times would really be bad). The seats will be filled by walk-up customers. Let the non-planners get some pixie dust.;)

I know I do- we change are plans or change our mind on what park I stay on the phone line sometimes 45 minutes to cancel so I hope so- In fact we decided to extend our beach stay in FL and arrive in WDW later in the week and just canceled CRT and Chef Mickeys- see April Reservation thread if you are interested

On or last trip I got lunch at CRT 3 days before we left- it can happen. I called every day for over a month

We tried to cancel and ADR for Cali Grill on our last trip. It was a long day and we just didn't feel like getting dressed for dinner. They told us that there was a penalty (I can't remember how much - around $40?). We went to the dinner because we didn't want to pay $ for nothing, and wound up having the best meal of our whole trip!

Bottom line is: I bet most Disney savvy people DO cancel their ADRs because they know that others can use them.

We've cancelled a lot. Mostly breakfast when we're out late the night before. I just put the dining phone number into my cell phone and the res number in my notes section and call from there if it's that day. If I change something before I leave, I call from home and tell them I don't want xyz anymore, please cancel it.

This is incorrect. ADR's are not tied to your reservation number they are tied to your phone number. Plus a person might cancel their stay at a Disney property but still stay at an off site hotel with the intent of keeping their dining reservations. Dining reservations have to be cancelled seperately.

I am curious about this. I have made about 15 ADRs for two trips coming in June and July. All of my reservations are tied directly to my room reservations and they didn't even ask me my phone number. I have called back several times to revise and change things and everything is linked to my WDW room confirmation number.

I am also staying at Bonnett Creek for a while, and I have made reservations during that stay too, and of course I don't have a room confirmation for to give them.

I wonder if I called to cancel to my on-site room reservations the food would go with it. I would definitely ask, because with the new system - it is definitely a possibility. Because people could book a room on site, make ADR with a 90 + 10 option, then cancel the room and book off-site. They have to have some safeguard to avoid this booking strategy.

I am sure someone knows...

There is an entire set of threads dedicated to canceling ADR's and people who are looking for certain ADR's for their upcoming trip. Simple post what you are going to cancel and when and those looking can PM you and you can set up a sort of transfer, even if it is planning when you will both call. It works, I've done it before! Good luck.

we cancelled a lunch Le Cellier reservation on our last trip....it was pouring rain and we were at SSR looking at the models of BLT. I just didn't feel like walking through epcot in that rain. So we just stayed and had lunch at SSR.

When I was at Cinderella's Royal Table I saw a group of 4 walk up to the podium and snag a walk up ressie because someone had just cancelled so yes it does happen.

I absoluteky cancel ADRs when we change our minds or the situation changes. On our last trip, we were having so much fun at MK but had a lunch ADR at Epcot. The kids just wanted to stay at MK so I called and cancelled the ADR.

And I cancelled a few during the trip planning stage as our plans changed and solidified.

If I know for sure I won't be there, then I definitely cancel. I want someone else to be able to get in.

We always cancel our ADRs as soon as we know we don't need them. I know that is a chance for someone else to eat where they were hoping! :)

Last week, I called to make my ADR's and the only time available for Chef Mickey's on the date I wanted was 7:50. Since we were supposed to go on the fireworks cruise that night, I booked Chef Mickey's for a different night instead and booked 'Ohana that night.

Less than 30 minutes later, I was regretting my decision - Chef Mickey's on our arrival day has become tradition, and the fireworks cruise was an expensive whim. So I called back, booked Chef Mickey's for the first date at 7:50 and switched 'Ohana to a later date. Then I asked the CM to cancel my first set of ressies.

He told me that in the new system, I should have just given him my original reservation numbers, and he could have modified them, so that I'd have the same confirmation numbers, and the system would automatically remove the old ADR when we added the new. I apologized, and he said I had no way of knowing, but he was telling me for next time. :rotfl: Guess he could tell I was a waffler, huh?

But anyway, the new system should make cancelling ADRs more frequent, since modifying your reservation automatically cancels your old one.
