Hello fellow Disneyer's!

Please, please do NOT rent from Payless Car Rental Agency in Orlando! There has been so many numerous complants about this agency.

I rented from them on my June 08 trip. Well, low and behold the representative (PAM) stated that I did NOT cancel my old reservation therefore she was going to tack on an additional $30.00!! I said WHAT? I explained to her that I did indeed cancel. She said do you have your cancel confirmation? I said No! I didn't know I needed one. She said I do need one! Hmmmmm, there goes a RED FLAG! Any other major car rental agency never asked me this before. I told her I would go online (after paying $5.00 to obtain the internet) to print out my confirmation Number. She said okay. She was very unprofessional. I told her that HERTZ or any other reputable company would not have done this! She told me that "Well, I guess we're not a reputable Company"! Her attitude was attrious okay, so I got my car which was only on 3/4 of a tank. I stopped the car and notified her of this. Once again an inconvenience, of getting out of the car and walking back into that place! She said just to bring it back the way on 3/4 of a tank. Okay whatever. (Isn't it much easier while getting gasoline to just fill it up rather then filling it up to 3/4th of a tank?)

I brought my car back, and there was another issue ONCE AGAIN! The rep, told me I brought my car back on 3/4 of a tank and it was not full! At this point I've about had it! I told him that the rep (PAM) told me to bring it back 3/4 of a tank. He told me "Okay, I'll let it go this time"! WHAT!!!, I said what do you mean you'll let it go this time!? He said, "Well you heard me." My blood pressure is going up! Then I gave him my printout of the CANCEL CONFIRMATION! Then he tried to tell me the date said June 8th (this is the date I printed it out on) I SAID, "NO, this is the print date!!!! Here's the date of cancellation (March 08)! I finally got everything straighted out! And I paid the correct fees! But then the kicker is this.....

PAM, the representative from Payless CALLS ME AT MY HOME A WEEK LATER AND TELLS ME that I have another reservation that was not cancelled therefore SHE IS GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR THIS! Okay folks this time I'm am truely lit! Now it has become personal. Long story short everything is resolved. BUT PLEASE, MY FRIENDS, do NOT RENT FROM THIS SCAM of a CAR RENTAL AGENCY! Oh and don't take my word for it either, here are several links with complaints about this place.

Thanks ALL for listening!:)

I have always advised against renting from these "no name" rental companies. There have been lots of "horror stories" about insurance hard sells, damages, getting cars with empty tanks etc.

You aren't the first horror story on one of these agencies. IMHO the "savings" aren't worth the hassle

(My brother rented from one on our "family" trip. We got on the buses at the same time, me to Hertz him to "who knows where" I was at the hotel, checked in before he got a car! Took him over an hour to get the car and then it wasn't what he reserved!

Thank you for posting and letting other people know about your experience. Hopefully it will help others avoid the problems you have had. I don't know if there is anything else to do. You have nothing to dispute with the credit card or with the better business bureau so I think just telling as many people as you can about your experience is the way to go.

You most certainly get what you pay for. I always rent from Hertz and have NEVER had an issue with them. I arrive, see my name and space number on the board and I drive off the lot.

Once I rented from Enterprise while my car was being repaired for the day. After getting a POS car (umm is that a "standard"??) and getting hassled about insurance 4+ times I swore I would never rent from them ever again (and to this day I haven't)

Not quite right. Before driving off you need to get back the paperwork and have it marked down in writing that the gas tank was only 3/4 or whatever. If the gauge is in between tick marks, you should round down to the next eighth of a tank or whatever and simply tell them that amount once you get inside. When you bring the car back they will certainly round down.

This applies to any car rental agency.

If they charge you for a bogus or duplicate or unordered service, you can dispute it first with your credit card company. They will have to send you information about that uncancelled or duplicate reservation. Now you do have the cancellation paper and you do have the record of your actual rental. And you can dispute your having made a duplicate reservation you never made in the first place. And of course you can dispute the existence of an uncancelled reservation if that was really the reservation you actually used.

The above also applies to any agency

From Payless to Disney/Universal, turn right out of their lot instead of their suggested left. Less than a mile you get to the light at Conway Rd. where you take two quick lefts onto 528 (Beach Line). Then to I-4 west to Disney or I-4 east to Universal.

Coming back from DIsney via I-4 East to 528 east, get off 528 at its exit 9 (Tradeport). Left and cross under, *, get into middle lane, required right onto McCoy, Payless is less than a mile on the left. (For most other rental cars, keep going to the next light, (Rte. 436; Semoran); right for airport, left for Hertz and Thrifty.

* Nice cheap gas station right here to top off at.

I rented from Payless for a Orlando trip back in July, and I wasn't impressed with Payless...on my car one tire kept losing air-they didn't seem to care.

1. I don't know about you, but in my expereince it's VERY hard to get the guage back EXACTLY where they gave it to you unless it' FULL. And if it's empty you get to figure out how to coast in on fumes? My suggestion, rent from a reputable company and if it's not fulll ask THEM to fill it up before you leave then return it full!

2. Why waste your time renting from companies where your rental will result in you having to dispute charges etc? Maybe you will win, but is the hassle REALLY worth it?????

Ths post reads like "what Payless did is OK because others do it" Umm.. I rent a lot and this has NEVER happened to me!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I believe that my time is money and it seems you spent a lot of time trying to get your car. I prefer to rent from Hertz and I have never had a problem or nasty agent.

Hi!

Well, I can tell you it doesnt' apply to PAYLESS Car Rental AGency! They will go out of their way to AGGRESSIVELY sell you car insurance, rip you off with the GAS mileage, etc. I did get it in writing but it was a CODE under the heading "GASOLINE" the code was "0". I asked the attendent what that meant and he said it meant gas is HALF FULL. I also, asked him what code was for a FULL TANK he said it was a "1". When the unprofesssional rep gave me the run around I did confront him about the codes also. Sorry forgot to mention this. The place is a scam. Sure they are cheap but they aRE VERY VERY AGGRESSIVE and RUDE! BEWARE! But, my question to you or anyone is why does the consumer have to go through all this CRAP just to rent a car. As Carol and other's pointed out a reputable car rental agency doesn't pull this kind of balony!

Also, has anyone ever heard of being charged a cancellation fee because you didn't cancel your car rental before your trip? I haven't. It's just another scam for them to RIP the consumer off.

Unless things have changed since May '05 when I last rented from them.

They had the usual 5/8, 7/8, etc. categories for how much gas in the car.

If zero means half full and one means full, then less than full has to be marked off as zero. But what do they use for quarter full?

I have not been hassled about insurance by Payless any more than other agencies.

I think National at one time had a cancellation fee. Also, now, Alamo has one program where you prepay in advance in exchange for an extra discount and there is a cancellation fee on that program.

I just re-read one of the earlier posts and I take it that the poster made multiple reservations with the agency. Everyone -- restaurants, hotels, airlines, Disney -- hates it when customers make multiple reservations (or ADR's) where only one will actually be used.

It is true that currently, if push comes to shove with a local agency, you have to deal with it in their local area. Meanwhile with a nationwide agency, you can ultimately deal with it, if the need arises, in any city where they have an office.

I don't particularly care what super secret covert operational code they use to bamboozal their paying customers. Five eighths, zero, one, I don't particularly CARE. All I know, is that I picked the car up and dropped the car off with the gas gauge in the same position. I don't feel it necessary for a customer to have to defend themselves or prove themselves right when they are paying money to do business with a company!

You can call it whatever you want, in my opinion this is a horrible way to do business. If a company has a problem with reservations and cancelled reservations they should make that point explicitly clear, at the time the reservation was made. If the company wants to squeeze every last dime that they can from their customers pockets, I'd rather have them be up front about it and offer me GOOD customer service in lieu of using fine print and questionable business practices to charge customers more via a covert means.

I see you haven't rented from them in three years, I guess you must be a "satisfied" frequent customer.

If the car rental agencies would quite playing all the rates games and just offer a fair price , we wouldn't be making multiple reservations. One day a week rental maybe $300.00 the next day it maybe $200.00 and then go to $350 the next day. I currently have 5 for my trip. One is a questionable code I have not decided if I am comfortable using. 2 are from agency that is not in the airport( I have 2 because there was a significant difference in $ between a compact and mid-size and haven't decided if a compact will work), another is the cheapest in airport rental I could find. The last one is a 1 day rental in case I decide I'm going to get a car to do my first day errands and then use Disney transportation and ME to get back to the airport.

In June I was able to get an SUV for $179 for 8 days from and in airport agency at MCO, Why is it going to cost me $100+ more this trip for a compact? It certainly isn't peak season in September.

If I would get a decent fair rate I would not have five reservations right now.

HI Madamy!!

I hear ya! Believe in me, in the past I have done the same exact thing as you! In my opinion you are exactly right. I have NEVER, ever heard of a legitimate car rental agency charging you for a car reservation that you made twice. It could be the consumer forgot to cancel, I've done that, and it's never been a problem........except for of course, PAYLESS! Why not just have a fair price, give or take a few bucks if it fluctuates a bit.:confused3

A word to wise regarding 'extra' reservations...be sure to cancel them before the date comes to use them. Then, print out your cancelation info, with canelation number on it...have it in hand, just in case.

It would seem that you indeed, get what you pay for. In short, if you are willing to take a chance in order to get a low rate, then go for it. But, sometimes it's worth the extra money to do business with a reputable company, that cares about your future business...obviously Payless doesn't care about repeat business.

Thank you Lily!

I forgot to post about mousesavers.com. They rank Payless as one of the WORST car rental agencies at MCO.

Brunette

I hope and wish rental car companies would start applying cancellation charges within XX hours of the rental, similar to hotels.

I rented from them in March. I got what I paid for.

I have mentioned this in other threads, but I was treated as though I was stealing their car rather than renting it. I will never, ever use this company again.
