Do Not Rent From Payless Car Rental!!!

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm flying into FLL and then driving to CSR on Saturday 8/23/08. I just canceled Payless and decided to go with Dollar instead.

If anything I said about this company caused you to not to business with them, then that makes my day!

Why would you wish for that??????????:confused3
Because it can tie up cars that are not going to be used...at least that is what I've been told. I have held rental reservations for two companies in the past, but have always canceled one at least a week or so before travel.

I know that a lot of people try to use codes or other discounts they aren't sure they are entitled to, so hold two, or three, different reservations...just in case one doesn't pan out. And that's really not a good idea. I have always said to use code/discounts that you know you are going to be entitled to if the company decides to double check your eligibility.

Well the laws of supply and demand kick in. So when National thinks that they have started to run low on cars they raise the rates. The view is that reserving LOTS of cars "just in case" means that others are paying more. And i think the view is correct.

Also there is a big risk that if you don't cancel your "extra" reservations and they are all at the same company you won't get charged the right rate.

Double bookings may be fun for the individual booker, but they just drive up the rates for other folks. The occasional no show I'm sure is factored into their costs, but the new trend to double (or triple) booking so a booker can "select" one at the very last minute only leads the company to think these are "hot dates", and they can keep rates up.
Keep checking the rates. Keep checking codes that you are eligible for. You can cancel and rebook at a better rate if it pops up. An example: Months ago my national rate was about $460.00 with legit codes. About a week ago the rate dropped to $236.00. I booked, canceled a reservation I had with Budget.
Today, my rate for the exact dates/times is $196. I canceled, rebooked this new rate. I always printout my cancellations in grey scale, and change the print quality to the lowest possible...saves on ink, and I still have proof.

(Sometimes I can modify an existing reservation at the new rate, sometimes I can't. I modify when I can, otherwise, I just cancel, copy the cancellation, and rebook.)

As others have so elequently pointed out above, it would help deter people from making multiple bookings. Multiple bookings creates a situation where the rental companies believe there is less capacity and results in them raising their rates.

Its all about supply and demand and actions, like double bookings impact other people. In short, those intentionally double booking are being, for the lack of better word, selfish.

Can you qualify your above post?. Who would double book intentionally??? And who on this board is selfish? There has been no other issues with any major car rental agencies that I am aware of, just Payless. Also, car companies will not hold your car. I have rented cars from various agencies always asking for a compact, and in alot of cases they do not have one, so they give me a FREE upgrade. So, in essense, they gave MY car away they don't raise rates. I will say, though, the rates are always higher during major holiday weeks. The reason that they are higher, is, because of the increase in rentals during those prime weeks. Regardless, my thread is about Payless and warning the consumer not rent from them. They're not worth the money.

Thanks!

Hi Lilyv!

That's a good idea. That is what I do also. Except I had no idea I had to have "PROOF" that I cancelled. But your right, alot of times the rate does fluctuate.

Thanks!

Sadly there are LOTS of folks on this board who have publicly admitted they are double booking because the "good deal" was on a code they KNOW they aren't really entitled to use so they book a "backup" in case they get caught! They even want to know how to make sure National uses the "good" code when they have two or three different ones on "hold"!:confused3

(Look for the threads with the 67 code in the title.... )
