Do not order Surf & Turf at Narcoosse's

Thanks for the heads up about the surf and turf. Dh and I are eating there for the first time in January and maybe one of us will order the filet and the other one order the whole maine lobster, then split it.

Great, now I'm hungry for lobster:(

We went at the beginning of Sept for free dining and I had the surf and turf. I must say that is was my favorite meal of the entire trip. The lobster tail was not tough and the filet was great.

Other steak meals on the trip were:
Yachtsman's
Le Cellier
Artist Point
California Grill

My DH & I just got back from the world. The one meal I was really looking forward to was dinner at Narcoosse's.

It started off great with the seafood bisque. Then we both ordered the surf & turf. (why not, we are on the DxDP and it is included). The filet mignon was amazing. However, the lobster tail tasted like I was eating air. I am not kidding, it had no taste at all.

We told the waitress about this and she said it is the only thing on the menu that is prepared from frozen product. I wish I had known this before I ordered. I would not have gotten it. This restaurant is known for it's seafood. There were many fish dishes that sounded really good.

I left there feeling completely unsatisfied.

Thought I would pass this info on so no one else makes this mistake.

I ordered the suf and turf when we ate there in Oct. I asked if i could get the scallops instead of the lobster and it was yummy!!!Next time you go get the surf and turf and sub scallops for the lobster you will not be disappointed

WOW we ate there last month and it was the best meal all trip. I had the whole lobster and my husband had the s&t. He said his was really good. Hmmm maybe it depends where they got their shipment from?

I think it really depends on the day or chef that day, and the quality of the lobster at the time you are there. I went in Sept and had the surf & turf and it was PERFECT. the filet was AWESOME and the Lobster was just as great. i have had MANY lobsters in my day, from bad to Great, and this was good. I absolutely believe you about yours though, im sure it was as bad as you said, but just know it can vary. I guess that is not really a good thing though, you want concistency when you go out to eat. But for me, i will be getting it again the next time im there. then again, the scallops sound good too.... dangit now im hungry !

Many people have commented that the full lobster entree is a 1 1/2-lb Maine lobster whereas the surf from the surf and turf is a rock lobster or some lesser quality tail. I have every reason to believe this. You can also be sure that most products you are being served, particularly the seafood, have been frozen (with the exception of the farm-raised product they get from Epcot). Are you under the impression the Maine lobsters are kept alive in a tank while flown from their waters of origin? They are frozen too.

You can substitute the lobster tail with scallops. Many have done this and say it is just as good. However, you probably won't feel like you're getting $58 worth if you do. We have ADRs at Narcoossee's but I think I'll walk up to Citricos right before and see if they have availability. If so, we'll dine there. Citricos is such an underrated gem -- it puts Narcoossee's to shame.

In Oct we actually saw the live lobsters in a tank at the entrance to Narcoossee's. One CM was actually playing with one and telling the kids it had a name.

Not Narcoossee's, but I had the Surf and Turf from the holiday menu at Flying Fish on Christmas and I was disappointed as well. And for $50-some for my entree, I was even more disappointed. I guess I should have stuck with the snapper that everyone recommends there! (DH had that and said it was very good).

I did have the whole lobster at Narcoossee's in January and I wasn't impressed there either - I thought it was quite tough and chewy.

I think I will stop ordering lobster at WDW!

I love lobster! I grew up in NY and lived in New England for 7 years, so I know what lobster tastes like. And I am telling you this had ZERO taste. I kept pouring on the butter thinking it would help and it didn't.

So good luck with your visit in May. This is just my $.02.

I'm a fellow New Englander...
The problem could be where the lobster came from in the first place... down south lobster or even frozen lobster is WAY different than the fresh, north stuff we have here.

They probably use those for whole lobsters (or maybe they are pets LOL) and the lobster tails in meals are from those odd looking lobsters they have down south that don't have claws- or if they do, they're really small. So I'll bet they use two different kinds.

Did you remember the name? :lmao: I can't stop laughing here and thinking what is the name of that lobster. :)

I am thinking it was Larry!! Can't help but remember the skit on Saturday Night Live in the seventies with Eddie Murphy. That lobster was also named Larry and there was a poll done to determine whether Larry would be saved or killed. In the end of the skit (over several weeks, and Eddie Murphy would hold a live lobster up to the cameras and ask whether he should "kill Larry, or save Larry") the lobster was cooked on the air. I can't remember if the lobster was eaten on the set or not. It was just funny!! It seems that whenever there is a chance to name a live lobster in a skit or other venues the name is chosen to be Larry the Lobster.
