last Friday evening, we set out for Epcot. We parked at the boardwalk and walked in through the International gateway. Right as we arrrive, the bottom fell out!!!!!! This was the only time we didn't take our Mickey ponchos. They were back in our room at the WL!!! We had no choice but to buy new ones right there at the entrance!

No sooner than I had paid for them-it stopped raining. We never put them on! It didn't rain at all for the rest of our trip. I brought them home brand new!!!!

Lesson learned!

Susy,

The same thing happened to us at WDW July 2002. We bought ponchos in MK because it was raining. Two days later we hit downtown Disney and got suck in the rain! We realized that we left our ponchos back at the hotel. Didn't buy extra ponchos, though. Took cover until the rain stopped and then went out in the sun to dry off!

The same thing happened to us last trip ... We had the $1 disposable ponchos but it rained the only time we forgot to bring them  This time, I'm going to make sure I always carry them with us :)

Is it really in my best interest to buy ponchos before my trip, or are the ponchos in the parks reasonable in price??? If it's best for me to buy them beforehand, where do I get them?

I always buy them before I leave because, yes, they are overpriced in the park. You can get them at Dollar Tree for a buck a piece. They only have adult sized ones, but I just trimmed up my DD's before we left so it wasn't too long for her. Plus, it's easier to find other members in your party when you're in a sea of yellow ponchos when yours are a different color.

Ponchos in the parks are about $6 a peice, and they aren't yellow anymore. The new ponchos are clear with a Mickey on the back. Since they are clear, it'll be easier to spot members of your family.

I'm buying our ponchos when we arrive on Sunday! Gotta have Mickey ponchos! :D

I think I'll buy them beforehand. I think paying $6 per poncho for 4 people is just a bit much. :D

That was my thoughts too. And you know, after thinking about it, I believe it was a twin pack that I bought at Dollar Tree because I had an extra one since we had an odd number of people on that trip. So, if they've still got them, then they are only 50 cents each then. Have fun!!

Until this year I have been able to find adult and kids coleman poncho's at Target, .99 each. Now I can only find the adult! Even though I know I can cut them it would be soooo much easier to have some for my kids. Its easlier to pack the unused ones for a day in the park. Anyone know where I can find kid size cheap ponchos? I have looked at all the retailers around here so I guess I am left with an online order.

TIA
TJ

tjmw2727 - if I remember correctly Walmart had the kid sized ones in the camping section when I was looking for them. Strangely enough I think they were more expensive than the adult sized ones but - oh well.

Same thing happened to us last May. I finally took the ponchos out of the backpack cause we had yet to use them and they were taking up space that we could use for other stuff. Sure enough it poured in EPCOT that day - at least it was lunch time and by the time we were done it was just a drizzle. We like to play in the rain but this downpour was a little much.

We buy several of the cheap disposable ponchos and carry two with us each day. After a bout of rain, we just deposit it into a trash can rather than try to reuse. On one 6 day trip we had rain every day. Another time, we were there for two weeks, during a drought, and never used a poncho once! You just never know when you will need them.

I went and packed ours as soon as I saw this thread. We leave on January 17. I was just wondering while reading all your posts does it rain a lot in January?? This is our first trip during winter so I thought I should ask. Thanks for any info!!!

it is best to buy *everything* beforehand cause pretty much any thing is overpriced at WDW..just accept that simple fact and live with it or you might faint when you start seeing some of the prices for things..just a little warning since it says it is your first time going there. ( remembering film, batteries, baby asprin, what ever you might need will really save you a bundle that you can then spend on 'necessities' like Mickey Bars:teeth: )!)

Not sure if the situation has improved but when we were at WDW a couple of weeks ago, many, many people (adults and kids) had a cold/cough. I would advise bringing some cold medication just in case ... we bought some at AKL and paid $8 :(

My DS is on the small side, even for 8, so when we use the throw away ponchos I tie up the bottoms. I did find a child size one for him but it was a bit bulkier to carry since it was the heavier plastic. I only carried it on days when we were pretty sure it would rain. One the other days I just threw an extra cheepie in my bag since they are much lighter and smaller to carry.

Good idea bunnyfoo!! I will pack that also. We're just getting over colds here at home so hopefully we're finished with that, but just in case I'm packing some. Sure don't want to pay Disney prices if we don't have to. Thanks for the tip!!!

We buy the cheap ponchos before we leave. After they have been used we just throw them away. Don't want to mess around with carrying or trying to fold up a wet poncho when i can buy them for .50-$1 each.

We took the 2 for $1.00 ponchos from Dollar Tree also. After a rainy day, we'd let them dry in the room at nite, then fold them up for the next day. I can't tell you how many times we were stopped and asked where we'd purchased them because people liked them better because they're clear. And they fold back to a small size so you're more inclined to take them with you each day.
