Do Not Disturb Gone! (BLT)

This whole thing is concerning to me to. We have a reservation for me, my husband and two daughters in September. My daughters are going to have their own room. I do not want someone barging into their room or mine. I also have to say we go to Las Vegas 4 to 5 times a year. We just stayed in a MGM hotel last month. We only take the Do Not Disturb sign off for 4 to 5 hours every other day. We are on vacation to relax and unwind. Housekeeping always calls to say if we need housekeeping to let them know. No one during our December trip came knocking to "check the room". They never bother us or invade our privacy.

So how are they going to do security checks with a dog in the room and the guest not in the room??
Ppl in dog experience thread said that housekeeping and/or security check had to be scheduled.

I was on property with a dog less than 2 weeks ago. If you want housekeeping you have to schedule it. There is no scheduling for a security check, they don't do one in dog rooms. We were there 6 nights, tried to schedule housekeeping on the 2nd day, they said they need an hour notice preferably. On the 3rd day we tried again, 90 minutes later no service so we cancelled and left. Changed out towels the next day and didn't try again.

Duty manager assured us no one would come in our room as long as the pluto door hanger was on it for any reason.

That’s it! We’re getting a dog and bringing him/her to Disney! JK

That sounds counterproductive to this whole new policy.

I guess they are assuming those with dogs aren't suspect?
The entire policy is counter productive. All a potential bad guy has to do is leave the illicit items in their luggage or vehicle until after the "check" is done.

What sort of idiot at WDW thinks "Hey, just before a mad man goes on a murder spree they will leave all their weapons on the bed and head to MK for one last ride on SDMT and that's when we'll catch them!" It's absurd.

I read your original post on this several pages ago, and just to clarify since I've been try to wrap my brain around this piece of it...From what I've read, it sounds like security comes if housekeeping isn't able to service the room (although there is some dispute as to whether the will come to each room daily, or just reserve the right to come in). So, did the duty manager actually say they aren't doing security checks in rooms with pet dogs? Or was it more, if they catch you while you're in the room (and no Pluto sign), they'll ask to come in and you to leave the room with the dog for a few moments? Or is it you only get a "check" if you are able to schedule housekeeping?

Putting aside the efficacy of the policy change in a general sense, it doesn't make sense to me that they'd just have a subset of rooms that security is not going to deal with? That would seem to decrease the overall effectiveness of it, I would think. :confused3

::yes:: Yup I've mentioned some of those things in other comments somewhere either on this thread or another one.

That's why I think enough posters are like "this isn't for safety this is for CYA"

Phony security theater
Makes lawyers and bean counters happy
Couldn't care less about guests privacy/inconvenience potential
Add dog factor...scratch security check.
Enter lawyer/bean counter..."dog could bite" "we get sued"
Case closed. The whole thing is total BS.

Man, I really don't need to know what times of day all my fellow dis'rs plan on having sex or just want to hang out naked in their rooms. :rotfl:
Ha!

Seriously though I'm so confused by the parks being so busy in the afternoon when every single person here has posted that their schedule is parks in the AM and resort/rest in the PM. Not defending these new security procedures I just had no idea most people nap midday.

According to both the duty manager, and concierge at check in, the pluto door hanger is to be on the door anytime the dog is in the room, regardless of if we are in it or not.

I asked the duty manager just that and while they didn't say word for word that 'there will be no checks on rooms with the pluto door hanger' they did reiterate once again that: "No one will enter your room while the (pluto) door hanger is on it for any reason." followed by either 'I promise you' or 'I guarantee it'. I don't recall the exact assurance phrase I was given. I was satisfied with that had a reservation I needed to get to.

~People park hopping adds to crowds
~Late starters adds to crowds
~People who have been there during the day or days where the heat and sun are strong mean people may leave to go back to their rooms for a break or nap and then go back out around dinnertime

As far as no idea most people nap midday--it's pretty easy to find a bunch of threads here on the DIS over the past and there will be ones in the future about midday breaks. It's common advice to give here on the Boards especially for those with kids.

WDW is a very small part of my vacation plans and I've only been on this board a month. Never occurred to me to search for napping threads. I didn't say people shouldn't nap or that it's wrong of them, just conflicts with parks being so busy mid-day, that's all :)

I wasn't expecting you to have searched trust me just answering your inquiry :-)

Thanks...hmm, they might need to consider tweaking that part a bit.
