Do many of you move within same resort to smaller villa/studio to save weekend points

On our recent stay we did the DVC tour.

We moved stayed at 3 resorts and moved twice. We went Wed to Wed - staying in a 1BR for 2 nites, a studio for 2 nites, then a one bedroom for 3 nites.

We had a rental car else I would not have done this. All three times our room was ready when we drove there.

This was partly b/c I changed our ressie 5 weeks out and didn't have enough points to cover the change - would I do it again, yes if I needed to, but it definitely took time. It is a good thing my little guys took afternoon naps because that is when we reorganized although we never completely unpacked - which worked out fine.

We don't change our rooms. We bought and have added on enough points to book a 6-night vacation in a 2-bed during the summer to make sure we can get in at least one vaca a year. When we don't travel over the summer, then we can afford to split our points up for shorter trips at other times of the year. Once I'm in a room and our stuff is all over, it's not moving!

FYI I forgot...our first DVC stay....we switched rooms 2 days after check in (why...that is another story...LOL) and it was right across the hall. Well we thought oh how easy this will be. NOPE.....they still had to take our luggage and hold it. We just went to the park that day and then when we got back.....it was ready. Sure would have been nice to just walk our stuff across the hall if the room had been ready.

O never thought I would change resorts twice in an 8 night stay, but I did in September. 3 nights with DH at VWL, 3 nights with DGF at AKV, and ending up with 2 nights at BCV. Moving was as easy as people say, if you let bell services handle the luggage. For whatever reason, our studios were ready at AKV and BCV before the 4PM time. This was a very relaxing vacation,(probaby, at least partially, it was an adult only vacation) and I would do it again.

Nope, I'm a stay putter.
When we decided to purchase we calculated how many points we needed to stay 9 nights.
I don't live near florida so trying to save the points doesn't get me another trip generally that same year since I've got to factor in airfare, food etc.

Typically, we're in a 1 bdrm 90% of the time. After getting our room key and moving everything into our room we head to the grocery store to stock our refrigerator and cabinets. Then we unpack everything else and put it into drawers, closets (hanging shoe organizer ), etc. Takes us about an hour and a half to completely unpack groceries, and everything else. After that we are HOME until it is time to leave.

When we lived in PA and took week or longer trips we did NOT relocate to save points. However, we sometimes split our stays between two resorts if we stayed eight nights or longer.

Now living so close we just go Su to Fr when we are going to use our DVC.

We changed resorts earlier this month. We spent 5 nights (Sun-Thur) in a 1BR BCV. We then switched to CBR for Fri and Sat. We let the bell stand move our luggage, went to the parks and then took Disney transport to the resort. Because CBR is so big, it took longer to check in and get to our room then we expected.

We would maybe try it again to save weekend points (especially since we try to book any sit down meals the days we don't have a full kitchen) however I pick a resort that is not spread out.

Really what we need to do is just buy more points so I don't feel like I have to save them for future trips!

If I really wanted to save major bucks and points we could stay at Shades of Green for like 125 bucks a night on those two weekend nights and each room sleeps 5. HOWEVER.....there is no transportation between a disney resort and SOG. We would have to taxi over with the luggage or at least one of us would. I just need to GO FOR A WEEK AND ALL WOULD BE FINE.... BUT NO.....I want to go for 10 days....and I want to stay at AKV and BCV.

Friends and I alternate using our points for a 10-12 day stay in late October/early November in a 2BR. We both have enough points to stay put and that's exactly what we try to do. We ususally have a car so moving isn't so bad, but we like to get someplace and just stay put!

We never change resorts or rooms. Once we check-in and unpack we are done until its time to pack back up. Takes time to repack everything, check-out, check-in for the new room (if ready) and move luggage.

In fact, we are staying at SSR for our NYE trip. We plan on going to DHS on NYE. We have a room booked at the Swan for one night so we don't have to worry about getting back to SSR. We are not checking out of SSR, just not staying there that one night.

We moved on our last trip, and will probably more again this time, but we are travelling for 2 weeks. For a shorter trip I would stay put.


We move to try new resorts, and get the most value out of our points. This year we will have one night at POP (arriving late on a Saturday so don't want to spend the points), then a week in a Studio (hopefully Beach Club) followed by 6 nights in a 1 bed at the Boardwalk.

I would love to book all 13 nights at the Boardwalk but I would have to borrow too many points, by doing 1 week in a studio and 1 week in a 1bed we will have points left for a trip the following year.

I prefer not to move within the same resort, it just doesn't feel right to me, but by moving between resorts, we are getting 2 experiences, and saving points.

When we have changed before, we go direct from one DVC resort to another, so the transfer of luggage is the same day.

When we go this summer, we may leave DVC resorts on a Friday, go off-site for the weekend and check back in at another DVC resort on Sunday.

Could we transfer just part of our luggage and have bell services hold it for a couple of days so that we won't have to take all of our luggage off site with us? That way, we could just pack what we would need for a couple of days.

I know the hotels will hold boxes, etc, that are shipped ahead of time, but not sure how long they will hold luggage before check in.

Anyone done this?

WOW do you know that I was wondering this same thing today. I was thinking (not that we are going to do this) more curious I guess.......if Bell Service would hold luggage for a night or two. Like say we check out of AKV on a Thursday and went to another Disney Resort like CBR for Friday night......could we get our luggage transferred to BCV for our next stay starting on Sat.?? Then have maybe one bag transferred to the CBR for that one night so all of it didn't have to follow from AKV to CBR and then BCV??

We did this last year, checked out of the Boardwalk, spent one night at Universal Studios, and hten checked into Wilderness Lodge.

Our bags were transferred but we had to wait a long time for them at WL and there was some concern over where they had gone. Eventually it transpired that only our cool bag was lost, and that did turn up the following day, but there were a tense few hours when we thought we had lost all our clothes!

I don't know if this happened because of the delay, or just one of those things that could have happened anyway, but it did make me wary of doing it again.

I have moved twice the first time we spent one night at BWV to try it out you couldn't really settle in because your moving. Then we moved to BCV I thought no problems they moved our bags for us. THEY LOST OUR LUGGAGE. Way to much stress for vacation.

Exactly! Most of the time they dont lose your luggage, but I am anxious from the time I drop it off until the time they bring it to the room. I can't just go the park. 1 it takes us longer to vacate our room and 2 I want to get checked into our next resort. So we usually just wait to get settled in, hang out at the pool or resort.

Checking in is also stressfull. Will I get my request? Will we have to wait til 6pm? etc.

Then I have to unpack everything and put it where it belongs.

We have also kept our DVC unit and spent a night somewhere else. We use DVC as our home and do not like to move.

it was before DVC we stayed at POP fisrt left our bags with bell service and after the cruise they were waiting for us at POR

When we've gone during peak times, we've moved from a 1bdrm to a studio during the trip to save on points. It's never been a problem for us to do this.
