Do many DVC'ers purchase the insurance?

Another thread has made me wonder about how many members buy the travel insurance - I'm considering it for a large group trip we've booked next August, but feel there are always options within DVC rules if one has to cancel (holding account, etc.) I'd also be interested to learn from someone who purchased the insurance and unfortunately had a claim... did the insurance pay for the value of the points, and if so, at what amount per point?

I'm a recent buyer - 200 pt. BCV contract from Disney in August - who immediately caught add-on fever and just bought a resale (that has passed ROFR) through Pat for another 120 BCV pt. contract. I've enjoyed learning from this forum!

We get the insurance on trips like the cruise and any forigen travel i.e. the Safari. We did file a claim for damaged luggage and contents, Travek Guard was great in the claims process.

At times I fell more secure with the insurance.

We got the insurance when we took two grandkids to WDW, but we don't just for the two of us. Might consider it when we take the cruise.

We also got trip insurance when we took a trip to Scotland and Ireland this past summer.

I think the insurance pays about $5 a point. Enough to cover the dues, but no way would that be the true value of a point. We have never taken it in our 10+ years with DVC.

Never take insurance for domestic travel, only trips outside the country.

I have purchased it a few times--in cases when I have had very sick relatives. I am on a fixed schedule, so I cannot usually use points in a holding account. It's worth it for me in these cases.

I have used insurance for cruises and trips outside the country. Travel Guard is very good. I have had to use it for one claim on a cruise for lost luggage. Excellent service and very timely. So far I haven't used insurance for domestic travel.

We almost took it out in '99 when my grandmother was gravely ill. We decided not to take it out, since our guests would likely come anyway if something happened. As it turned out, she passed away 2 weeks before the trip, so it worked out. That is the only reason I would take the insurance for WDW, since I think DVC does off us enough options.

we had to cancel a cash reservation/trip. We tried to get the money back through the insurence. But we didnt qualify because we didnt meet the outragious terms. Our trip wasnt cancelled because someone died by being shot in the eye with an arrow while eating chocolate pudding on the roof of a building that was over 17 storied tall during a rainstorm at night between 11pm and 2:47pm.................

Definately get travel insurance on cruises. Not only for the cancellation, but also the medical assistance. If you get sick on ship, and have to be airlifted off, the insurance helps. Otherwise, it's thousands of dollars.
