Do MAGNETS cause problems?

Does anyone know if the magnets that are on so many bags/backpacks cause problems with credit cards and Disney passes? I just bought a nice travelon bag, but it has a magnetic closure and I am concerned that it could demagnetize my cards. If the magnets do cause problems, how can you protect your cards? Any DIS info is very much appreciated.

Absolutely. My green suede fanny pack de-magnetized our KTTW cards, twice. Dummy me! We thought the cards were bad then realized that I had a magent closure! After two trips to replace them DH kept the cards. You can't use them in your new bag, unless something has changed since I was there last.

They will give you cardboard ("envelopes" I guess you would call them) to hold your KTTW cards at Disney. We've never had our card demagnatize so I'm guessing they work. However, DH did SIT on his card and bent it during our last trip. IF this happens to you....have it fixed at the front desk of your resort immediately. DO NOT go to the park and hope it still works at the readers. It will not. We got stuck for ages in line at Epcot and almost missed our dinner ADRs because guest services had to print us out a 1 day pass to get into the park.

I have a travelon bag that I used for our trip in 2006, last year at SeaWorld and I plan on using it for this upcoming trip. I have not had any problems with it. My magnetic closures are at the top of the bag.

Does yours have the back pocket that zips vertically? That is a good place to keep tickets and/or room cards.

Last time I went to Disney world,I kept my pass in my phone (its a flip phone so I used it as a money clip almost) and my pass was demagnitized. My everyday wallet has a magnet closure and my ATM card has been demagnatized twice so I got a new wallet that just holds cards thats leather to keep my passes in so it doesn't happen again.

and then inside it has a pocket that opens like a book that also has a magnet and that pocket is for credit cards(right by the two magnets) My bag is a rectangle shared backpack that converts to a sling bag or a messenger bag by changing strap configurations. It is a really nice bag and I got it for a really nice price in TJ Maxx($12.99). I emailed Travelon, so I will see if i get a response. I also google credit cards and magnets but have gotten mixed info. Thank you for all the quick replies.

On one of our trips DS bought a little Mickey with magnetic hands and feet and he put it on the strap of his badge holder. It demagnetized his pass.

I had ours, meaning my daughters and my cards together and they got demagnatized that way also, at least that's what the CM at our resort told me. LOL :confused3
I went through this twice, so trust me I took all precautions possible after the second time it happened! :upsidedow
I had always kept them in the cardboard holder they give them in, and I kept them seperate from one another after the second time, I think the first time they were next to my digital camera in my pocket so that made sense. The CM said it could have been the cards next to one another, having them near a magnet that could be in your camera, phone or purse/wallet.

Travelon responded to my email about the magnets in the bag and they said that although they have few complaints, they have received some that say their cards/passes have been demagnetized from the magnets in the bags. They suggested not keeping cards near the magnets. I am very disappointed in this news and I don't want to face any problems while on vacation, that's for sure. So I will probably be returning my bag, I am sad to say - because I really liked it. I also bought a mini Baggalinni wallet on a strap with GUESS WHAT-a magnetic closure right by where you slide your credit cards. What poor design flaws!!! Thanks for all the help and responses.

My travelon bag screwed up my AP a few times, finally a CM asked me if I kept it near a magnet and it dawned on me what was happening.

As a front desk agent(I wish at Disney!) here is my advice for KTTW cards, same as I tell all my guests:
Keep away from - car keys, cell phones, magnets, big belt buckles, PDAs, laptops, PSPs, etc.
If possible, keep keycards in a pouch on their own or in wallets. Don't let them float loose in backpacks and bags.

But chances are they can be reprogrammed! :)
