I was reading another thread here where the OP said how chicken nuggets are such a staple on kid's menus these days.

It struck me, that when I was a kid, the greasy, crunchy, finger food that you dipped in a sauce, usually ketchup, not tartar sauce, was fish sticks.

:scratchin I don't think chicken nuggets were invented until I was about 15 and the McDonald's commercial had to explain that they were (back then) all white meat chicken breast with no bones.

When I think of it, other than an occasional McDonald's filet-o-fish, especially around Lent, or walking by the frozen seafood section of a supermarket, I don't come across even talk about fish sticks anymore.

Has chicken nuggets killed the fish stick industry? :confused3

My kids ate them up when they were little! This house hasnt seen a fish stick in lots of years. One eats fish now and the other does not.

I never touced them as a kid and I've never purchased them for my kids. Two out of my three do like chicken strips though ( none will touch a McNugget though.)

My kids do, they love fish stick night! Well, really its not "fish stick" night, its "beer battered fish tender" night :rotfl:

We have some in the freezer. My 5 year old DD likes them and they are good to throw in the oven when we are eating something she won't. She likes to dip hers in applesauce though.

Now that they are teens, one of mine will eat fish, but the other one still won't touch fish with a ten foot pole.

But even with the one eating fish, the old style sticks, she won't eat. They have to be the thicker cut, thicker batter coated tenders for her to eat them.

And do NOT put tater sauce anywhere near her plate. She likes it with just a hit of salt.

That's what we are having for dinner tonight, and my kids are 16 and 18 LOL.

I bought them once recently to see if my kids would eat them and to try them. I remembered them fondly as a kid ... (And I grew up in Fresh Fish Country!) but neither one would eat them. I tried them and it was not what I remembered.

I guess we are the lone ranger out here, but yes, our kids eat fish sticks. More like fish tenders, not the froze, square cut perfectly shaped "sticks"

Our DS5 once ordered fish sticks at a resturant and burst into tears when they came out, when they were really "sticks" he just about lost it.

mmm, our kids also eat Tuna Fish sandwiches too. For some reason, they call them Cat in the Hats :confused3, but heck i dont care, they eat them

My kids won't touch fish sticks with a ten foot pole. Now tuna, on the other hand, I have one kid that would eat a tuna sandwich every day if I let her!

The kids I know (nieces & nephews) don't but I do! Every once in a while, I get the taste for them. I don't buy the cheapie ones made from minced fish. They're not quite the way I remember them, but they're pretty close. I'd really rather have fish & chips, so when I get the urge for fish sticks, I'll go to a local restaurant that makes great fish & chips.

And I love tuna fish sandwiches too!! I'm really a kid stuck in a 50 yr old's body!

I LOVE fish sticks! Whole Foods makes some that are great, and I eat them up.

We having fish sticks tonight. My kids love them! With them I make baked steak fries and baked sweet potato fries (for me). Carrot sticks are their vegetable with them.

My kids only like fish sticks and tilapia. They turn their noses when I make salmon (which is my favorite).

My son (6) loves them but I prefer not to serve them - so unhealthy, plus I want him to eat what the adults eat. Everyone gets the same meal.

Yes. Although, mine are homemade and not frozen

We all eat fish sticks - the regular, old-timey, stick-like, Mrs. Paul's fish sticks. It's one of our standard "quick meals". We eat them with frozen fries or Kraft mac and cheese and frozen corn. We dip them in ketchup.

Hmmm... now I've got a craving. Fortunately, there's always some in the freezer along with the other "quickies" (chicken pot pies, chicken nuggets, and frozen pizza)

I love Maria Callender's chicken pot pies. The crust is so much flakier that Swanson's.
