Do Kids need I.D. when flying one way? - OT

This summer my kids and I are flying to Oklahoma to stay with my husband (he works there and we live in a different state). The airfares from where we live to Oklahoma are outrageous.

He will be here the weekend we leave for Oklahoma and we are planning to fly out the day he does. After looking at all the airfares we would save half if my husband drove in that weekend and we drove back with him. The kids and I would then fly back home in August on a one way ticket.

My question is, since they would be one way tickets will my kids need i.d.? They will be 11 and 14 by then. I've looked on a couple airline websites and could not find any info about this.

Just this February I asked airport security in Orlando about this because DD is 16 and looks like she's 21. As of right now children under 18 do not need ID. They take it on good faith that you're telling them the children's proper age.

This is for children traveling with an adult with ID, I don't know what they do for kids traveling alone.

No, you will not need ID for your kids. TSA doesn't know if your tickets are one way or round trip since they only see the boarding pass for that day's specific flight. So it doesn't matter anyway.

Children under 18 do not need any form of identification to fly. Children under 2 who are flying as a lap child may need a birth certificate to prove the child's age to the airline.

That being said I usually get my children a passport on their 16th birthday. It serves as a right of passage for them and does provide identification if questioned. My daughter (now almost 19) looked like she was nearly 21 when she was just 16.
