Do kids get separate park tickets/meal plan cards

Hi...I'm a newbie and although I've done a ton of research, I can't seem to find the answer to this question.

DH, DD and I are leaving for WDW (POP) on July 25 until Aug 2 (YAY!). We are actually attending a wedding there. Along the way, my BIL & SIL and Niece decided to join us as it is their 10th anniversary. Their DD and mine are both 3 years old.

We have decided to swap babysitting for things like the wedding reception, their anniversary dinner, etc. and I wanted to know if the kids will get their own KTTW card? (We all have park hopper tickets and we are on the dining plan) Because if they have our DD at a different park than we are, they will need her park passes and dining plan credits, right?

Yes they do! (Actually DDP points for the whole family are listed on everyone's cards) Have a fun time!

Updated: Only issue I can think of is that for 3 year olds, it's hard for them to do the finger scan so they sometimes have you use YOUR finger. Don't do that if you don't plan on being with her the whole time!

yes, the cards are all attached to a finger scan after you use them for the first time. (Makes the cards non-transferable). Just make sure your babysitters have a copy of DD's birth cert or passport to prove her identity if she's having a problem with the finger scan.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that they do not have small children do the finger scan, just adults and teenagers.

Disney doesn't ever require a birth certificate for entry to prove age or identity. This would have to be part of their policy and clearly communicated. Only for the free birthday admission or gift is ID required. The last time I was there (11/08) kids tickets did not have to finger scan, only adult tickets (10 and up). The cm's let my kids put their fingers on, but no reading was done.

I was just suggesting that as a way to be better safe than sorry. The OP is having her child taken to the parks by someone else. I was asked to scan FOR my DD's ticket during our last trip. So my fingerprint was matching her ticket. if I wasn't with her, the scan wouldn't have worked properly.

BTW, Disney CAN ask for a birth cert to prove age if the child appears questionable. My DD is very tall for her age (and speaks like she's 25 ) and we were asked several times at the gates and restaurants (when they would try to charge her for buffets when she was two!). We now never travel w/o her birth cert "just in case"

No, WDW doesn't require kids to travel with birth certificates to prove age. Can you imagine the uproar if this was the case and not widely publicized? All you would have to have said at the gate or restaurant is "she is two." I don't believe you were asked for a birth certificate, only how old she was.
My kids under 10 haven't used the finger scan.

Yes, they do give separate cards for everyone and...

They will put your DDs name on her card so make sure you give BIL and SIL a letter stating that they have permission to have her in the park if their last name is different from yours and vice versa.

I still have my cards they also note the hotel you are staying at on the card - it's in code but it's on there. So if DBIL and DSIL are staying at a different hotel it's another reason to make sure they have a note saying they have permission to take her to the parks.

The DDP strictly forbids buying food for anyone not on the plan and their cards will say that they can only buy a meal for one child so her card will definitely be needed to buy food for her even if they don't go to the parks, my cards say DDP A03C02 - yours and theirs probably will say DDP A02C01. Also, even when buying snacks they should make sure that they tell the person at the cash register to ring her food separately so that there isn't a problem with the credits. You and your ILs will also want to check receipts or get a print out from the front desk of remaining credits to make sure credits for her food aren't deducted from their account and vice versa when you have their child.

ETA - I just wanted to note that when we were there they weren't having anyone scan their fingers (May 3 - 9). We didn't scan our fingers once the entire time we were there and neither did anyone else that we saw. I don't know if there was problem with the scanners or if they were not doing it because of crowds (moderate) or what. I was prepared for the scanners and had told the whole family what we had to do and when we actually went to scan our fingers our first day the CM at the turnstile said "no, no don't do that just put the card through."

The short answer is yes, your daughter will have and need her Key to the Kingdom card to eat and enter the parks. It's not complicated. Use the right kids' card (name will be on it) for entry and buying food. Hope you have a really good trip!

Some people are giving those cast members at the gates WAY too much credit. They don't care if the kids' last name is different. People bring kids into the parks all the times with different last names. Many mothers have different last names from their kids. The employees don't even look at your card. You put it through the machine and if there is no problem, you go through the turnstile. "A note saying she's allowed to be at the park"? Who would take the time to look at that? The people behind you trying to get in would have a cow if you pulled out a permission slip!
