I know if I want to get into the Blue Bayou Restaurant I should make reservations but what about the other sit down restaurants like Cafe Orleans and The Plaza. We've always just walked in but I was just wondering if it was possible.

Well it will be our first visit to DCA and don't know much about the sit down restaurants. Any recommendations for breakfast, lunch, & Dinner? There are six of us, 2 senior citizens 2 mid aged folk, 1 teen (me) and 1 kid (7yo).

I LEAVE TOMORROW MORNING :cool1:

If you would like to eat at cafe orleans, I would make a PS. Because they havent been doing table service for very long, you might be able to walk up and get in. But, if you really want to eat there make a PS. The plaza only takes PS for the Minnie and friends breakfast. Lunch and dinner are counter service. You can also make PS for the Carnation cafe on main street. Its one of our favorite places for breakfast.

DCA doesnt offer a lot of sit down places that take PS. There is Ariels for the princess meal, Wine country tat. and the Vineyard room. I havent eaten at any of them. Dh had a private work function at the Vineyard room last year and said the food was good. Other then that most places are walk up/counter service. There are not many breakfast options in DCA because of the late opening time.

From what I've heard, if you want to eat at Ariel's in DCA you should make PS for it. I think you can walk up to the Trattoria and the Vineyard Room and get in most of the time. But as with anything else, if there's something you REALLY want to do, you should make PS just to be sure you have the opportunity.

I think the only place in DCA you can get a hot breakfast is Pacific Wharf Cafe, and it's counter service. The bakery has muffins and stuff like that if you want something quick.

Pacific Wharf Cafe is my favorite counter service place at DCA for lunch/dinner...all of the other counter service places are a bit more generic - burgers, pizza, so-so Mexican, or fish/chicken strips. The Trattoria had pretty good food the last time I ate there, but that was several years ago. I've never tried the Vineyard Room, though I'd like to!

Another breakfast option if you're going to DCA - have breakfast at White Water Snacks or Storyteller's Cafe in the Grand Californian. As long as it's after park opening you should be able to use the "private" entrance to get back into DCA...I've never been been asked to show resort id there (though I've never tried first thing in the morning) and I think that as long as it's not right at park opening they don't require you to be a resort guest - especially since if you ate at one of their restaurants you have a valid reason for using that entrance!

To give you some idea of what's available, you can find menus for all of these places here:

Anyone know how the crowds will be the 3rd week in June? Should I worry about PS or just walk up and hope? I'm trying hard not to over plan this vacation..LOL!

My standard advice to people is to always have one or two PS's. If you get there and decide you don't want/need it you can always cancel, but it's always nice to know you can have a nice place to sit down and relax and take sort of a "mini break".

I definately agree with this. We go in August and have seen a number of people turned away becuase they did not have PS. As stated, you can always cancel.

We make 3-4 trips to DL annually, and have found PS/ADR's (whatever your lingo is as the CMs refer to them as both) an absolute must for Blue Bayou, Plaza Breakfast, Ariel's Grotto, and Wine Country Trattoria, unless you are going Mon-Thurs, then I've only found them needed for Bayou and Ariel's. That being said, 10 days is generally enough time to get the desired time at any of the places for you and your group.
