Hi - I am currently packing our luggage for our first ever trip home!!:thumbsup2

I have DH's DVC membership card but I have put mine in a 'safe' place and now can't readily put my hands on it!!!:lmao:

Do we need to take both with us?? I can probably find mine with a bit of effort, but I have so much else to pack/sort I could do without worrying about it!!

We will be together most of the time, unless one of the children needs to go back to the room early for any reason - so I didn't know what it was really used for??:confused3

Many thanks for any info:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

If you are with your DH, you should never need your own.

If you separate, there are a number of things you might need it for - discounts, TOWL lounge access (though for either it seems they will usually just look at your KTTW card that says DVC member). You would need the blue card to buy an AP. I can't think of much else.

They usually have "DVC Member" on your key to the kingdom card (room key card). Just make sure it is there and that should be good!

I would argue that unless you're doing something very owner specific you won't. We've never, until recently, even had one as the membership was in the family but not "ours". We just recently added on and had our names added. So, in 11 years we never needed a membership card.

That being said, we didn't try to do things that were owner specific (discounds at the spa, etc.). For 99% of park related things, the KttW card that says DVC Member is enough.

If you want to do Richard Petty, buy discounted Disney Art, etc. you may need it - but that's not common stuff.

We have booked discounted Tours and never needed the actual membership card.

thanks everyone :lovestruc- we won't be needing anything discount wise and I can only think that we might pop to the Merry Mixer but we would all be together then anyway. The only other thing we are looking at doing, was trying to visit some of the DVC's with a view to a small add on but again Steve will have his membe card and we would be together.

So I shall not fret anymore over it and get on with the rest of my mountain of packing!!!:lmao:

Thanks again for all of your help:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

The only time we needed both member cards was for a Cirque LaNouba discount on 10 tickets. Each member got 5 discounts only, so hubby did 5 and I did 5.

If you need it, you can get a temporary printed at the sales center at SSR.

Like Tara said,
When my wife lost her card we stopped bt the sales center and they printed a new card. The process only takes a few minutes. (once you get there).

The only other need for the card was when we purchased AP's...we needed to have the card to get the discount.

As others have said, if it becomes an issue you can get a temp card at the sales office.

I have never carried my blue card due to the above reason. In October, I went to purchase the DVC finylmation figure and they would not accept the key. Fortunatley, my husband had his.....I did inquire, they said too many renters were buying the stuff and selling them and that they are cracking down. THis was in AKV store.

We had to show our membership card to get the 20% discount at the Swan/Dolphin restaurants. But we only needed to show one.

I've been asked for the blue membership card in addition to my room card a "few" times over the years. Enought that I carry one in my wallet now.

We have a related question-- we have just passed ROFR for points at SSR. We should close at the end of next week. How do we go about getting a DVC membership card? Can we go by membership services or the DVC office at SSR if one doesn't arrive in the mail?

Thanks.

You should eventually get one in the mail. But if you need one before it arrives, you can get one at the SSR DVC sales center.

I went down to WDW about one week after closing on a DVC resale contract (we were paying cash at Port Orleans). I called member services and got my DVC number. When I went to MK to get a DVC discounted AP all i gave them was my drivers license and my DVC number and I got the discounted AP.

FWIW, I had to show my DVC member card at both Jambo and Kidani to
"rent" videos. DVC members can sign out the DVD's for free and we usually grabbed one each night to help the kids unwind. Each time, I had to show my member ID card to get them for free.
