Do I need car seat for plane?

I have 2 children ages/weight: 3(about 32 lbs) and age 5 (41 lbs)....Do I need to take a car seat on our US Air flight? The airline site seems to say (hard to figur out) that only infants need a car seat. Thank you.

you do not need to have them in carseats. I flew witha 4 month old and then again when she was 9 months old and did not have her in a carseat. BUT if the children will be more relaxed might be worth it to tie them down

If your child is under two and you BUY them a seat, the nthey have to be in a carseat. If you don't buy them a seat ,then they are on the lap. Over two doesn't need a carseat. Now depepnding on what mode of transportation at your sestination, you may need a seat tehn. But if you are on a shuttle, taxi, bus, or DME, then you won't need one.

Car seats are not required for any age on a plane. If you aren't renting a car at Disney you won't need them.

Nope you don't have to have one, but I highly recommend them . Your child will be MUCH SAFER in one then without one. I know it's a pain and you have no choice but to buy a seat to use one, but to me it's worth the expense. You have to buy the seat anyway because of their ages so why not use one ? I also think they are much happier on the flight if they have their own seat instead of sharing with mom or dad. I would still use one for my DD6 if it weren't for the fact you can't use boosters on planes.

Like other have said, you don't have to have a carseat on the airplane. But I have been on several flights with DD and DS from infant to 8 years old. I found putting them in carseats upto 3-4 years old a lot easier, because they both like sitting in them, and are more comfortable than seats made for adults. I also felt it was safer especially during turbulance and landing, where they would have just slipped through the lap belt. Only downside is that you have to carry them onto the plane, but I just hook my arm through the restraints and I can still push our stroller.

and we brought her seat. Yes, it was a pain. But she sat there perfectly quiet and happy while all the other kids (or so it seemed) were running around the plane. I think that she was so used to "when you are strapped in your seat you stay there until we stop" mentality that she never even questioned the fact that she may be able to get up.

I have a question, while I do believe in carseats for the little ones, my youngest, who will be 4 at trip time, has out grown is 5 point, and is now in a high back booster. What do I do about putting him in a carseat this time?

You can't take the boosters on the plane with you(to sit in I mean). We check ours(for our daughter who is 6)...and carry one carseat (for our son who is 3)on with us. then we have both for the car/taxi/shuttle rides later.

Did he outgrow it by height or weight? Which car seat did he ride in before? There are some seats out there there have taller harnesses and go to a higher weight limit. At not even four yet, he really would be much safer in a 5-pt harness seat.

Let me know his weight and torso height (sitting, bum to top of shoulder) and I can make some suggestions.

I've never used a car seat for my 5 year old twins. I did have the harnesses though when they were little. They attached to my seatbelt.
