Do I need a birth certificate for DS for flying?

yep, we didn't buy a seat for her. i think the agent was pretty clear that they just wanted to confirm her age, but she was just an infant, so there really was no question. They asked to see it, but I got the impression that it wouldn't have mattered if we didn't have it.

We're flying again in September (to disney!) and she's now 13 months, so it may be more of an issue. We will definately bring her BC, and probably the older kids as well, just in case.

With the price we got on airline tickets, I wish we had gotten her a seat, but there weren't seats enough. She's quite an active one year old, all over the place, so this could be a fun plane ride. at least this time she'll have 5 laps to choose from, not just too, and she loves her older sister, so we can take turns trying to entertain her.

We always buy seats for the kids, but bring copies of the birth certificates anyway in case they are needed.

As for the stroller, we gate checked our Graco Duoglider (double)- I took off all the extras (tray, hood for front seat, etc) and packed them in my luggage, since they were not necessary to be able to use the stroller. That way they didn't get broken on the plane.

Have a great trip!

Thanks, that actualy answers a question we had- if we could gate check the jog stroller, didn't know if there was a size limit for that sort of thing. Would be nice to have in the airports. Even with 4 people to take turns, she gets heavy fast.

AHH - i sure hope we don't need a birth certificate for our DD! She is not officially adopted yet (still in foster care with us), so we don't have a birth certificate, SS card or any documentation on her. :confused3

My dh is a social worker, so I can speak from working knowledge here. You may not be asked for it but you had better have all the necessary paperwork handy. You will need written permission to cross state lines with a foster child. Who grants this permission differs somewhat from state to state. Here, the state worker in charge of the child's file can grant this permission. When a child goes into care, you should get copies of the child's records (birth certificate, ss card, medical card, etc.) ASAP. Admittedly, this sometimes takes a little while if the child has been in a number of different placements through various agencies or if the child is not a US citizen. If I were you, I'd talk to my foster child's worker about the planned trip ASAP.
