I can't believe the Mom didn't offer to clean it up. Maybe the kid had issues, but she should have cleaned it up.
As far as animals (mostly dogs) in grocery stores goes- here in Maine all a person has to say is the dog is a service animal and the store CAN'T do anything about it. AND it is ILLEGAL to ask what the animal is "servicing for" in other words, I could take my 80 pound weimaraner in there and say she was a service dog and there is NOTHING the grocery store can do- otherwise they are violating the ADA.
The grocery store can ask questions about the dog. Specifically from your ADA:
Businesses may ask if an animal is a service animal or ask what tasks the animal has been trained to perform, but cannot require special ID cards for the animal or ask about the person's disability.
So the grocery store can ask about the dog, but not about the medical condition of the person.
I'm telling you, I could write a book...
Store manager came out to see what the ruckus was and my face turned bright red. She came personally to get me off register and I can't say that I ever used my step-dad for transport ever again.
