Do I have a right to be aggravated about this? VENT!

I can't believe the Mom didn't offer to clean it up. Maybe the kid had issues, but she should have cleaned it up.

As far as animals (mostly dogs) in grocery stores goes- here in Maine all a person has to say is the dog is a service animal and the store CAN'T do anything about it. AND it is ILLEGAL to ask what the animal is "servicing for" in other words, I could take my 80 pound weimaraner in there and say she was a service dog and there is NOTHING the grocery store can do- otherwise they are violating the ADA.

The grocery store can ask questions about the dog. Specifically from your ADA:

Businesses may ask if an animal is a service animal or ask what tasks the animal has been trained to perform, but cannot require special ID cards for the animal or ask about the person's disability.

So the grocery store can ask about the dog, but not about the medical condition of the person.

That's where I work too! And don't worry, I don't shop there either... :thumbsup2

Now the bathrooms are a ENTIRELY different story... Just wait until you hear about the "Diarreah Commentary" and "The lady who used the bathroom with the stall door WIDE OPEN!!" :lmao: I'm telling you, I could write a book... :sad2:

It was my mission every shift to avoid the potty if at all possible.:lmao:

I could probably right a book just about customer behavior unrelated to cleanliness and that would include my own step-father who came to pick me up from shift one time and barked sooooo loudly that I'm sure Seafood heard his demands that I get off of the registers now b/c my shift had ended.:scared1: Store manager came out to see what the ruckus was and my face turned bright red. She came personally to get me off register and I can't say that I ever used my step-dad for transport ever again.

I'd almost take a kid spitting on the belt over that embarassment.

(Then the idiot customer who's parked car backed into my car b/c he was too dumb to utilize his parking brake when he parked on a tilted portion of the parking lot AND left the car in neutral as it was a stick.:sad2: To his credit he had the store continue paging for the owner of the car and after a bit I realized it was my car.:sad2: To my credit, my car was parked out of neutral with emergency brake and it was a stick.)

Here's what I know about the dog thing. My mom works for Safeway, and store employees are not allowed to say anything because the person with the dog could claim it's a "service" dog for anxiety or another condition, like a security blanket. I love dogs, but don't want them in the grocery store!

The little boy was a disgusting brat. Who does that?

I know you can't say anything rude to the lady, but I would have put my hands on my hips, looked straight at Junior and siad "Really? Why would you do something like that?". and then moved on. I wouldn't even look at the mother. She'd hear me talking to her angel and hopefully the kid would be mortified.

Wow! I really feel for you, especially having witnessed plenty of disgusting behavior in grocery stores myself.

So, here's something about grocery stores that has been bothering me. Are dogs allowed in a grocery store? You see people carrying their small dogs around while they do their shopping in all kinds of stores, including grocery stores. I would think the stores would frown on this. What really bugs me is a lady I've seen a few times who puts her bassett hound right in the cart. She spreads out a blanket on the bottom of the cart and he lies there while she shops. My son said it was cute but I told him I like dogs but I sure don't want to put my groceries in a cart where a dog's behind has been!!!!! So, people who work at grocery stores, does your store have a policy on animals (besides service animals) in the store?

I agree, the spitting was disrespectful, and rude. Some people think they are above cleaning. I would have asked for a paper towel and made the child clean it up himself!
A basset?? I get annoyed/grossed out when people bring lap dogs out and into stores, but we have a basset and there's no way we could lift that chub into a shopping cart!
I worked at Nordstrom during a college summer and a woman let her dog poop in my department (on carpet!)! To be fair, she did ask for a tissue to clean it up (and then disposed of it in an outside garbage), but what are you doing bringing a chihuana into a high end department store!!
