Do I dare to hope for an upgrade?

I booked us in a cat 11 (Dec 8th Wonder), specific room # on deck 5. DDs have issues, so being near the kid's clubs was a must, so I asked them to note the ressie as "no upgrades unless on deck 5". Did I shoot myself in the upgrade foot? There are only 3 of us travelling, and DDs don't even know about it yet, but I was soooo sorta hoping they might get the porthole they so frequently long for! Also, one DD uses a stroller as a wheelchair, but doesn't need an accessible room, so I was crossing my fingers for the extra square footage. Do I dare hope???

Even if you don't get an upgrade, a category 11 on deck 5 is great. We were in one last October and loved it. The location was central and it was nice that the whole deck wasn't rooms.

Dec. 8th, being a pre-holiday sailing, might not be quite as full as a peak period cruise, so theoretically there might be somewhat better chance (can't get an upgrade when its packed to the gills, after all). There are wonderful Cat. 8's on deck 5, and (the 10's being SPH rooms, don't think they'll be available for upgrades) even if those didn't end up being available, at 185 square feet, a Cat. 11 has as much or more interior room than most other cruise lines balcony staterooms (but w/o the balcony, of course).

We're all (me included) guilty here on DIS of stressing and fretting about little things that didn't go perfectly, when the big picture is that we are talking about Disney Cruises, which are going to be some of the happiest days of your life, that your family will always remember, no matter what stateroom you are in.

I agree that upgrades are rare....but the demand for staterooms on a popular cruise is what gets folks upgraded.....every time we've been upgraded, it was on a sold out cruise
