Do I buy gas or wait?

I have a 1/2 tank right now and that could last me for another 5 days. Should I go buy gas at these inflated prices at the risk that it might run out or should I wait thinking that this mayhem may calm down in the next couple of days? I'm in the Chicago area. What would you do?

Buy it now. I am going with the motto that when my tank hits the half point I am filling up. Plus, I don't think the prices are going down anytime soon, so I would continue to fill it up as often as you need. It's a bummer all the way around.

I'm going to have to buy today. I'm nearing empty. I prefer to get gas on Tues & Sun when it's 5 cents off -- but stupid me forgot on Tues. duh!!!

I filled 2 of our cars last night because I could see the changes occuring (going from 2.55 to 2.89-3.09 at various stations in our area). I paid 2.65 at our areas known to be lowest gas station...I just drove by it and it is up to 2.85.

According to everything that I've heard... the gas shortages are only going to get worse for the next 10-14 days. I would get gas sooner rather than later!!!

Panicing will only make things worse.

Buy it now. Prices will definitely be going up. Hopefully they will come down in a couple of weeks.

You chicken littles are acting EXACTLY like the billionaire oil company CEOs want you to !!!!!

Get a grip and think. If there is no demand, the prices will be brought down. Ride your bike. Take a bus. Take a train. Walk.

Exactly!!

Ride your bike. Take a bus. Take a train. Walk.

Unfortunately, a lot of us like in areas that don't have trains and buses. I know I work about 40 miles away and DH just under 30. I'm not walking or biking 80 miles a day R/T in my skirt. :earseek: . For some of us the desperation comes from having to work, and having to depend on our cars w/ gas to get there. 2-3 weeks off work could start to mean financial devestation for more people.

I went ahead and filled up so that I wouldn't have to worry about it for about a week.

I've decided to wait and fill up next week
I know I'll probably regret it.

Last night gas in our town was $2.79 this morning $3.25!!!

I'm all for conserving but sometimes you gotta drive. We decided not to go to the beach this weekend mainly because of gas.

I have a half a tank right now.. No place I need to be, so I'm going to wait..
Other people need to get to work, so they're more than welcome to take my share for now.. :flower:

Not everyone has those options. I'd gladly take mass transit, but it isn't available where I live. I drive about 25 miles r/t to and from work, so too far to walk or ride a bike. Can't carpool as no one I work with lives anywhere near me, in fact they are all in the opposite direction.

I do drive a fuel efficient car, and try to combine trips.

I topped off one car last Friday, and the other this morning. I've got a small stockpile of gas in cans in my garage as well, but it's for the generator or if I need to make a trip into an affected area to transport people or animals.

I don't know where you live, but that's simply not possible for a lot of us. The only place I can walk or ride a bike to is the neighborhood pool and playground. My subdivision is on a busy street, and traveling on that street any way other than car is way too dangerous. And a bus or a train? :rotfl: The buses only service the really poor neighborhoods in this city, and trains only go to places really far away.

Buy now. Prices are going up, and the holiday weekend will increase demand.

We filled up both of our cars last night. We are not doing any extra driving, just to work and to DS's school, and stopping enroute for any errands we have to do. If we get to a half of a tank, we will fill up again. Some people may consider this panicking, but there are already gas stations in my area without gas. If I don't "panic" but everyone else does, I am just left a fool.

We need to drive, we don't have a good public transportation system (and if I can't get gas, I doubt the busses can either), and work and DS's school are on the other side of town, too far to walk or bike. If we were unable to work because we didn't have the gas to get there, even for just a week, it would be a great financial strain on us.
