Do DVC members ever get upgraded?

Hi, I'm actually renting points from a member for a studio @ OKW and was curios if any members have been upgraded to a larger unit????

Actually we have 2 studios reserved and it would be so awesome to be upgraded to a 2 bedroom.
Well a girl can dream can't she.... ahhh

I think I heard about it happening one or twice for a larger room and a handfull of times to better views mostly from standard to preferred at BWV. I think you can safely assume it won't happen.

Here in Minnesota, the advertising slogan for the multi-state lottery game is "It COULD happen".

I think the chances of getting upgraded at any of the DVC resorts are only slightly better than those of winning the lottery.

In FL, the lottery ads were for a long time "YOU NEVER KNOW" and yes, I'd say the odds of getting a larger unit are pretty close to winning the lottery.

I thought I would repost my reply on the "active duplicate" thread.

The rule is never. But that isn't actually true.

My Aunt made ressies with her points as a gift for her sister (my other Aunt) and family for 2 nights in 2 studios at VWL in August 2001. They were on the way to the Disney Cruise and stopped by WDW for 2 nights.

When my other Aunt arrived at VWL, they told her they were overbooked and upgraded her to 2 one bedrooms instead!!

Don't know what actually happened since it really shouldn't have. Maybe they overbooked on the cash ressies or maybe they just had open inventory available. It may have helped that they checked in late and where there for a very short trip. Who really knows? All I know is that they got extremely lucky!!

DA said it was beautiful there. Her only complaint was that she shouldn't have paid for park tickets for the day - the kids want to leave the room or pool and had to be dragged to the park!

So, bottom line is even though it's not impossible, DON"T COUNT ON AN UPGRADE!!!

We have stayed on points several times. One time we were staying in a one-bedroom on points, but added on one night in a studio for the first night (this was a cash night). When we got there they upgraded us from the cash studio to a one-bedroom that we got to stay in for the rest of our stay(since we already had a one-bedroom on points).

Thank you everyone, I guess I won't hold my breath on an upgrade from a studio. From what I've heard once you stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom you'll never want to stay in a studio again anyway. I like the studios they are just fine for my family but with all the upgrades that seem to be going on at the other Disney resorts I thought I would throw the question out to get some replies.

We had friends go to OKW last week. tHey reserved a studio and were upgraded to a 1 bedroom. They are not members, but I think they were overwhelmed.

were they staying on points or on cash? I would think that they would probably upgrade someone staying on cash at a DVC resort, OR a DVC member staying on points at a NON-DVC Disney resort, but not anyone staying on points at a DVC resort.

We were upgraded from a one bedroom at HHI to a two bedroom. A ton of space for just two people , we each had our own bathroom! I do suspect that such an upgrade is more common at HHI because the vast majority of the units are dedicated two bedrooms; plus our trip was during the slow season...

Never say never - but don't count on any upgrades; they are extremely rare
