Do Dogs Have Feelings?

I know mine do! Whenever they do soemthing they KNOW not to do...and get caught, they will give me this look that is a cross between "Uh,oh...I messed up" and 'Oh, Mommy, I am SO ashamed!" My doxie, Buddy will also root his nose under my hand to be petted when I am down hearted..so will my chihuahua mix, Chip. And thye both will run thier cold wet noses across my leg when thye want attention and are not getting it(like when I am on the phone). They KNOW when i get home from work, and they KNOW whne we are talking about them. They have more feelings and know more than -we give them credit for sometimes!

::yes:: My one dog won't go to the bathroom in front of people... he goes behind the shed to do his business and keeps peeking out to make sure noone has come outside :rotfl2:

Oh, that is too funny.

My dog feels 'proud' when you dress him up, lol.

when i was younger i used to put my cat in a baby carridge and read him stories, like a baby. that cat would stay in there the WHOLE time too, until i closed that book. but the WHOLE time he gave me this look like "i will get you for this eventually".

........God i miss that cat!

When my dog has a outfit on he acts like he is so cool and tries to show it off. He walks with his head held high so everyone can see him, even though he is only about a foot tall.
When I first started to dress miss daisy, to get her used to it, and not try to tear off her dress, I would right away pick her up, and bring her to the mirror and tell her what a pretty girl she is.....now, when she has a new outfit, I
sometimes catch her checking herself out in the mirror!!! :cutie: She gets excited when I bring home a new outfit, and even holds her head out so I can put it on her... princess:

Well my dog is going to be mad when we leave for disney tomorrow!

DH use to work the midnight shift and this happened before we were invaded by the doxies. We just had Anni (terrier mix) and Katie (shepherd/lab mix). In the morning I would find the placemats and mail on the floor. Thinking Katie was the culprit, I would fuss at her. Until.....one night DH left for work and I was still awake. Anni jumps off the bed and goes flying down the hall. I sneak down the hall and reach over and turn on the dining room light. Anni is on the table with a guilty look. She was the culprit. Talked to DH before I left for work and relayed her escapades. He gets home after I have already left. Anni runs up to greet him, tail wagging and happy to see daddy. He looks at her and tells her I know what you did last night. He said she stopped, hung her head and walked off and pouted on the couch. :rotfl:

:rotfl: My dog is the complete opposite. He wants the praise for having done his business. He does a little dance & wiggle when he's finished, then points to it until we pick it up with a baggie. He has us well trained. :goodvibes

Dogs definately have feelings. My westie loved to greet people who came to the house. Our neightbor came over, sat on the couch, and told her to get off the couch and pushed her a bit so she would jump off. She went over to her chair, jumped up, turned around to face the back of the chair, and sulked for a good 2 hours. She was mad! Also, whenever we would dress her up in a Santa outfit, she just sat there looking embarassed. Dogs are great characters!

You should be very careful what you name your dog because if the name makes people laugh, the dog can get a complex ....

Why yes they sure do :dogdance: My Tilly (border collie) is just so funny. She lives up to the the reputation they have and then some. This is the breed that you often see in commercials/shows cause they are so easy to train & eager to please.

Everday at the same time that DD comes home from school she will run to the door at least 10 minutes before -- yup she can tell time.
for DH she actually shivers with excitment since she knows he will go wacko with her. If we have all been out she will come running out and actually run OVER the flower bed clearing the snap dragons in one leap.

About 2 weeks we came home & heard no footsteps running down the stairs (as soon as I leave the house she mopes on my bed snuggled up on my nightie) No Tilly --- thinking she is sleeping, i slip upstairs. NO tilly in my room but OH MY GAWD .. the entire can of kleenex shredded everywhere. She ran downstairs to her kennel. Fast forward to now. If I am ever upstairs to gather laundry or whatever she will follow me, per usual -- until it looks like we are gonna go into my room... ears tight against head, tail between legs and zoom down 3 flights of stairs. She knows it made me royally angry so --- won't go in the room at all!

Oh one last thing if she is "happy" we all SWEAR she actually SMILES

The family dog (mutt to the extreme) is a sweet, old guy. And he sure loves him some human food! Years ago when I was living at home, my mother had a doughnut on an end table, ready to eat. Well, she got up to get the phone or something. When she came back, Peanut (the dog) was sitting next to the end table with a look of complete guilt. Head down, tail flat against the floor, big brown sad eyes. She walked over and saw a big fat lick mark on the doughnut.

Similar thing happened when he was a pup. Mom left the room, dog jumped on the table and ate an entire chicken in about 3 minutes. He had quite a bit less finesse then. But that same guilty face.

Here is his proud face...

And he totally smiles too! Always has...big toothy grin. It's my favorite thing. Such a wonderful welcome when I go to visit my parents nowadays!
Here's his pearly whites, grinning big...

Duncan our golden retriever is full of feelings. He is the happiest dog we know. If we are getting ready to go out on the weekends he will lay in the hallway and sigh. The more you walk over him the louder he sighs. He can look very sad if you are sick and very guilty if he has done something he knows he shouldn't. Now that he is 9 I say he has turned into a stubborn old man. If he doesn't want to come to you he either doesn't look at you are glares at you. :rotfl2:

We put this on my parents' dog, Koty. It's his Halloween costume that we got him!

He's a lobster. And...he was pretty embarassed. :confused3

we know when we walk in the door when Odie has done something wrong. He will lay on the couch with this sad look and won't make eye contact. Thats when we start looking around the house because we know he has done something he shouldn't have done. It is usually a potty accident or getting into the trash.

Jake does this too. He won't come out of his pen to greet us so we go looking for the remains of what he ate that he shouldn't have. He is a huge Lab and anytime we forget and leave anything out on the kitchen counter, it is gone, but for the few remains of wrappers, by the time we get home.

The other day my DD left her cold lunch on the kitchen counter. As I was dropping her off at school I told her I'd drop it off to her after I went and worked out. After I worked out, I run home, no lunch bag? :confused3 Oh, it's on the floor. It was a lunchable and he had mauled the box up but couldn't get it open and finally gave up. But he did get her little debbie brownie.

When my two royal pains-in-the-butts don't get their nightly walk (ya know 'cause it's FREAKIN POURING outside!!! ) they sulk. Plop down right in front of me, look at me with them big old brown eyes and "~siiiiiiigh~"

Play me like a piano..... :dog: :dogdance:

Scruffy, our Shih-Tzu, has major issues. He is perfectly capable of going outside to do his business (always leashed, he's psycho off of it, tries to catch squirrels). He will, however, go on the rug in front of DH's bathroom sink if irritated. As I pick it up with tissue, he'll trot in, then get that "uh-oh" look. I'll ask, in my Mommy tone "is this YOURS?" I kid you not, the dog turns his head like, if I don't make eye contact she can't get me. I'll shove it under his nose and ask again, he'll turn head again. BAD DOG!

On another note, cat's definitely can be embarrassed. We had a Himalayan for 12 years till we lost her to kidney failure. When she was young we lived in a house that was like a chalet, story and a half, vaulted ceiling in great room that was open above with landing/gallery to upstairs bedrooms. There was a railing across the edge, with about a 3 inch border I guess for lack of a better term. The cat used to love to lay up there, with her head poking out between the spindles, looking down on her "people". She was also really bad about walking along that outer edge, or strutting I guess, saying, I am the greatest. Anyway, one day, she decided to jump from there to the bottom floor. DH and I are like "don't do it" . Well, she jumped, must have hurt her feet when she landed. Sat down, shook her feet then proceded to run around the house at breakneck speed for 15 minutes, probably to make the paws quit hurting. Cat version of "Ow , ow, ow ,that was really stupid. If I distract them maybe they'll forget that." :lmao: :lmao: I miss that cat!

I'm sure they do. I think cats do also. They just won't show it as much. :rotfl2: to arrogant. :rotfl2:

Do dog have feelings like embarrasment ? Do they know if their getting laughed at?( you know laughing at a bad hair cut or a silly outfit) I was just wondering and see what you would say.

I think they most definitely do. My lhasa apso (who died 4 years ago :sad2: ) absolutely REFUSED to go outside when I put a rain coat on him. He would stop dead in his tracks in the door. My terrier that I have now (who I believe IS my lhasa apso reincarnated) has the same sense of humor. We don't really walk him since he runs outside in the backyard all day. If my husband and I aren't giving him attention he'll sit and whine. It's cute! :goodvibes
