Do Dining Plan credits expire after ck.out

Does anyone know if after you have to check out of your resort (which is normally noon), if you planned on going back into the park for a while that day, will you be able to still use your Disney Dining Plan credits? My MIL said she had heard after you check out of your resort, any credits you might still have had are not able to be used.

I read that they are good until midnight of the day you checkout.
