If disney looks at your CP program to "sweeten" the deal....does it matter what you do? Like for example...one of the jobs I'd love to do at Disney would be a story writer for the Disney Animation Studios. Would people at disney look at my time at Disney and say oh she did merchandise (or fill in random job here)...so we want someone with more relevant job experience? (Keeping in mind I'll have a BA in English and a writing minor). Would they want someone who did costuming..or something more entertainment?

Since all CP positions are entry level, the specific role you work and its relevancy may not help a great deal for professional roles within other segments of the company. What presumably makes more of difference is your (filed) performance evaluation, which are done upon request in most areas. These evaluations (once submitted) can attest strongly to one's work ethic, and can be referenced by other segments when it comes to making hiring decisions.

The more important thing that CP participates take away, and what I would assume to be the most beneficial with respect to other business segments, is familiarity with company culture, company brands and the company's various franchises. An enhanced knowledge of corporate synergy may also seem beneficial to professional recruiters. I can't really speak for them- only they know what they're looking for, but having some experience with the company, even if with a different segment, I would think to be beneficial.

John Lasseter was a Jungle Cruise skipper at Disneyland after all. That's an exceptional case to be sure, but some experience is better than none at all. It's only one part in the much broader picture though- since Disney is a top-tier ranking studio, other bodies of completed work and experience along with previous Disney experience in your portfolio would certainly help things.

Yes- but he was also fired for the IDEA of Computer Animation! One word and he was doomed to wander penniless until he met Steve Jobs. So he started there, and he ends there, but the river had some major rocks.

Many a career of an executive has been filled with major curves in the road... I'd venture to say it's rare for a journey to the top be clear and concise.

Point taken, however.

As stated above, every position availible for the CP is an entry level job. They hire people off of the streets on a daily basis to fill these roles because there is a ton of turnover here.

Having said that, I cant see that any role would look better than any other entry level role in regards to you advancing.
