i am deciding if i need to buy walkie talkies or if i could use my cell phone to keep in touch with other party. Can i use it there. Also, can you rent Walkie talkies. If not, any reco's for a good range that could get range from hotel to parks?

yes, foreign cel service works, but you will pay a heavy price in roaming charges. Fido raised US roaming 3x in the last few years. Check out your carrier's agreement online for US roaming fees.

This is the package we are looking at. It is for Bell customers. Even though there is a 2 month minimum for the Florida package and 1 month for the US package it is still much cheaper than a lot of Bell's other travel plans.

Connect Florida and Connect USA

Heading to the U.S. for business or pleasure? Or planning on spending the cold winter months in sunny Florida?

Connect USA or Connect Florida are two great ways to enhance your rate plan when travelling across the border. They provide a bundle of roaming minutes that can be used at any time, day or night. All long distance and roaming charges are included in the price.

Connect Florida Connect USA
100 Florida travelling minutes
Includes both incoming and outgoing calls
$20 per month
100 USA travelling minutes
Includes both incoming and outgoing calls
$40 per month

How it works:

Before leaving for your trip call customer service at 1 800 667-0123 or visit a dealer in order to add the feature to your phone.
While away, stay connected and talk without worrying about your bill.
When you return call customer service and have the feature removed until your next trip.

I called a Bell rep with some questions regarding our cell package recently and added unlimited text messaging for $10 for all three phones on our plan. She then told me that we could text message anywhere in North America with no roaming charges. So rather than taking the FRS radios with us to WDW earlier this month, we text messaged everywhere. Better range than the radios, and it would work coordinating activities when people were in different parks, or between park and resort.

Now, I took the Bell rep's word regarding the roaming charges, and I haven't seen the bill yet since we got back. If I was misinformed the bill is going to be astronomical....

We are with Telus and we just change our phone plan for the one month that we are in Orlando. For 250 anytime minutes includes all roaming, etc. costs us $75.00. It works out to $40.00 more than our regular plan with Telus, but then we dont have to worry. I think its called Talk North America 75. Works great.

Then anyone can call us from home and we can call anywhere in North America.

We bought a cheap mobile phone at Target in the States to use while we were there. I think we paid $20 for the Virgin phone and bought a $10 card that had lots of minutes. It took a 30 minute call to set it up.

thanks, i have telus, and i will check with them.

I have unlimited text messaging with Bell Mobility and did not pay any extra to use it in Florida. Used it to message home and people within WDW.

my telux provider has unlimited text messaging, so this should be available i hope, i guess this would be the easiest ways to set meeting places etc.??
