Do certain professions "run" in your family?

Truck drivers! Both grandfathers, my parents' uncles, and my father were/are truck drivers. When my brother decided to be a music teacher I started threatning to continue the line of truck driving... too bad I get motion sickness:rotfl: Teaching was must safer.

** Forgot to mention that fiance and his father and grandfather are truck drivers too

My mom, nana, aunt, cousin, and cousin's husband are/were all nurses. I'm a pharmacy technician, so I'm still in the medical field.

Well, a lot of folks in my family work with kids. My grandmother taught till she was married, my aunt was a teacher's aide, my mom started college for teaching but had to leave when her dad became ill. Mom married and had 8 kids, so she definitely was a teacher of sorts (she taught Sunday school, worked in the school lunch program, and in various child care centers once we were all older and in school besides being SuperMom)! My sister started off as a teacher and moved into corporate training. Another sister ran a child care center. I teach. So far, none of the next generation, my nieces and nephews, are planning on careers in education or other fields with kids.

My family is full of doctors (surgens) and I made the choice to teach:teacher: instead. My father was VERY disapointed:mad: and didn't talk to me for a while and refused to pay for any of my college. So, I paid for it myself. I hate blood, don't even like to see my own, so that's why I don't want to be a doctor or in the medical field period! I love teaching and this is what I feel I was ment to do in life. My husband and his family are very supportive and that's all that matters to me. My father said that I was putting myself in a position where I wasn't going to be making any money along with some other hurtful things, but I won't even go there. I love teaching and that's all that matters. I want to have a job that fills my heart and passion in life, not my wallet. money is important, but it shouldn't be the major factor in life.;)

:cheer2: And you are the type of person that makes the best kind of teacher. When a person has a calling to do something, they should do it because every other job would just not compare and you would have been miserable. All to often people go into teaching for the wrong reason and then hate it.

My dad's family is mostly loggers or work for the Forest Service. My mom's family tend more towards the military, law enforcement, fire fighters and healthcare so I guess the theme there is public service.

On my dad's side of the family there a quite a few teachers. I have an uncle, an aunt and three cousins that are teachers.
My mom's side varies a lot. Most of her relatives are tradespeople.

Teaching here too. It's definitely in the genes, but it's not what I want to do any longer. I'm hoping to go into nursing which,
oddly enough, is popular in my step-mother's family!

More teachers here. My paternal grandmother, aunt, and my father were college professors. My sister got the teaching gene but I didn't. Instead, I work as a secretary at a University and enjoy interacting with the faculty and students without having to get up and teach! I tried to teach a Sunday school class once and was a MISERABLE FAILURE! Those people trapped in that room RAN out when I finally shut up! :rotfl:

Nothing but cops. All over the place...

Lol, I have a few in my family, on my Father's side his Uncle was Police in Singapore during WWII, then on my Mother's side her Great Uncle was in the Police in the 1910's/20's. As for now DH and DBIL are in the Police and so am I!

Claire ;)

My mom was a school crossing guard and then I became one. My DH wanted me at home with the kids and I could have a job that allowed me to be a SAHM and work too. My DH was a correctional officer before becoming a Sheriff and our DS will graduate from the Prison Academy in 3 weeks. He intends to transfer to the sheriff's department in a couple of years like his dad did. That is as close as we come to it.

For my family it is the medical field.

Gramma- degree in nutrition but stopped working when she married..
Grampa- Surgeon
Mom- Hospital Administrator (runs a Hospice now)
Dad- Family practice (previously OB)
Uncle J- OB/GYN
Both Godparents- Cardiologists
Uncle M- Radiologist
Aunt S- Doctrate of Pharmacy
Uncle H and his Father- Dentists
Uncle C- Neonatologist

Those are the ones I can think of right away.... I am currently in school to become a Nurse Anesthetist. My brother bucked the trend and is a computer engineer, married to an environmental engineer.

yep! anything healthcare if you are female (we have PA's, NP's, RN's, PT's, OT's, Rad Techs, Resp. Therapist, you name it all things medical). We joke that our family alone could run a small hospital. Now, most of the men are mechanics or construction workers. Very few have any medical knowledge or even want any.

My husband and his twin brother are both master electricians and their older brother is an electrical engineer- my 12 year old son already knows more about electricity than I do! He and my dh talk about it and while I'm totally lost- my son gets it!

Long line of military. All Air Force. Then, I married someone in the Navy and was considered a traitor.

With a family like that, you could open a small hospital.

My brother and my sister are both chefs, and my mom cooks better than either one of 'em

I'm the deviant. (Again!) I'm just a humble administrative assistant with a legal firm.

Preachers, Teachers & business owners!!... with a couple of Nurses, Dentists and Hygenists thrown in for good measure.

My DH is the oddball. He sells, designs, and project manages fire supression systems for oil refineries and other special hazards.
